Surviving White Coat Trauma and Racism
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than 45,900 people died by suicide in 2020. We as physicians are not immune to thoughts of suicide. Therefore, our Surviving White Coat Trauma and Racism session this month will focus on mood support and provide a space for people to deal with stresses associated with burnout, and trauma - the most direct contributors to physician suicide.

We will also be sharing facts during the month about Physician suicide and ways that you can help if someone you know admits to suicidal ideation.

Fact: About 400 Physicians complete suicide every year.

The surviving white coat trauma and racism group provides a system of combatting burnout due to the compounded trauma of the physician journey and the stress of macro and micro aggression. In this group the Balint method is utilized to unpack misogynistic and racist situations and dynamics. The purpose is to create a safe and empathic space for healing for black physicians.
