There are over 180 invasive species in the Great Lakes alone and several more that threaten our borders. Not only do invasive species pose a significant ecological threat, they also negatively impact the economy, recreational experience, and can even pose risks to human health. Join Derissa Vincentini from the Invasive Species Centre for an introduction to invasive species and to learn how to prevent, detect, and monitor invasive species in your lake and surrounding land. We will touch on what makes a species invasive, pathways of spread, call to actions and how to report sightings of invasive species. More eyes on the water contributing to invasive species prevention and monitoring will mean that we are all better equipped in our watersheds and communities to curb the effects of invasive species.
