Speaking Up to Center Race in the IL CRA
Right now, rules are being made that will determine how strong of a tool the Illinois Community Reinvestment Act (IL CRA) is for building a fair, inclusive system of lending and investment that meets the needs of low- and moderate-income Illinoisans, especially people of color. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has issued Proposed Rules for the implementation of the IL CRA, and the public has the chance to comment on those rules by March 16, 2023. The IL CRA was signed into law in 2021 to help ensure that specific state-regulated financial institutions better meet the needs of consumers and small businesses in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, especially areas that lack access to banking and lending services. Join Housing Action Illinois, Woodstock Institute, and the IL CRA Coalition to learn what our priority issues are and how you can speak up to help ensure that low-income communities and communities of color are the focal point of the IL CRA.
