Join Le Dernier des Touristes artists Laurena and Sarah-Mecca on Saturday July 16th, 2-4 PM for a free paint and collage workshop exploring the oppositional gaze.
Participants joining via zoom are asked to use materials available at home, or to create digital collages. In preparation for the workshop the artists ask participants to collect print outs, magazine clippings, and/or photocopies of family photos as source material to personalize their works. Specifically, Laurena and Sarah-Mecca ask participants to bring images of 4-5 touristic spaces from their home country/ies with visible tourists in the landscape (eg. resorts, beaches, hotels, photos from travel-blogs etc.).
Additional source material ideas: Small objects, landscapes, flora, fauna, archival photos etc that have meaning to you in relation to your home country/ies.
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is intended to center women and non-binary folks whose connections to ‘home’ have been disrupted or displaced by imperialism and settler-colonial projects, particularly those of Indigenous ancestry and/or those with roots from the global south.
Cet atelier sera animé en français et en anglais. // This workshop will be hosted in French and English.
