IFA Global Cafe: In Conversation with Ms Helena Herklots on "Maintaining the Dignity and Promoting Rights of Older People in Wales"
In spite of facing various particular challenges, older people have exactly the same right as everyone. Health professionals have the responsibility to ensure dignity to patients and encourage autonomy among older people. It is recognised that older persons are highly vulnerable to abuse, including in long-term care, the WHO estimating that at least 4 million older persons experience maltreatment in the European region every year.1

As the former Chief Executive of the charity Carers UK and the Chair of the UK Industrial Strategy Healthy Ageing Challenge Advisory Group, Ms Herklots brings to this conversation with extensive experience in influencing public policy, campaigning for change and providing support services for older people.
