Thanks to Phyllis Edwards for sharing this
important presentation.
There’s no doubt that many people plan for
the future. We plan how we are going to
spend our life – vacations, activities, finances,
relationships. Some of us have even done
some planning on how we are going to exit this
life —will, trust, power of attorney, and living
will. But even the savviest among us may
overlook one crucial element in our exit plan:
a Letter of Final Instruction. It’s the ‘missing
link’ connecting how you currently live with
how you plan to exit. It’s something most
people don’t have.
This letter of instruction is a non-legallybinding
document that provides your family
with guidance upon your death on little
things that wouldn’t necessarily go into a legal
document. It answers the questions that the
rest of your exit plan does not. It can save
your family a lot of stress and confusion. It
helps with the ‘who, what, when, where’ that
might not otherwise get answered.
