"Lenten Series with Rabbi Raachel Jurovics: 'And the Word was with God - Seeking Encounter in the Expanse of Scripture'"
The Lenten season invites Christians to seek a deeper relationship with the Holy One from a place of anxiety and uncertainty, nurturing the hope that seeking will culminate in resurrection and salvation. Reading scripture as a sacred conversation with divine revelation can provide welcome guidance through this delicate time, even more so when the conversation is informed by some of the exegetical tools we have inherited.

Join Rabbi Raachel Jurovics, diocesan rabbi-in-residence, for weekly discussions via Zoom during the five weeks of Lent. Starting March 9, each Wednesday evening from 7-8:15 p.m. will feature a 45-minute presentation by Rabbi Raachel, followed by an interactive exercise, either in the full group or breakouts. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Session topics:
March 9: "Therefore you are My witnesses, says the Lord, and I am God." (Isaiah 43:12): An introduction to midrash as an interpretive framework.

March 16: "In the beginning . . ." (Genesis 1:1): What does Scripture mean? How midrash works in Jewish Bible study.

March 23: "How will I know that this is so?" (Luke 1:18): Examples of midrash in Jewish and Christian texts.

March 30: "You will see greater things than these." (John 1:50): Focus on midrashic allusions in Christian Scripture.

April 6: "Oh, taste and see the Lord is good." (Psalm 34:[8]9): Creating our own midrashic understandings of Lenten-related Christian Scripture.
