EXPLORE- In this 45 minute weekly class, we will learn about prominent flamenco dancers and history through film, photography, dance and discussions. Participants are invited to explore the deep roots of flamenco.

MOVEMENT- Participants will learn basic flamenco movement and rhythm techniques that will be modified for both sitting and standing participation. No previous dance experience required.

STORYTELLING- Using the TimeSlips method, together we will create stories by studying flamenco paintings and photography.

FILM/VIDEO- Flamenco has been documented for many years in full-length dramas, documentaries, cameos and of course, YouTube. We will deepen the appreciation of Flamenco through viewing and discussing flamenco in film and media.

September Focus
Los Farrucos : A Flamenco Family Dynasty
September 6th- Introduction to the prominent Flamenco family known all over the world as Los Farrucos. Starting with the patriarch Antonio Montoya Flores "EL Farruco", known for dancing Soleares or Solea. We will begin our journey learning the rhythm of Solea, discovering movement, sound and structure. The session will end in video study.

September 13th- Let's meet "Las Hermanas" (the sisters). Pilar Montoya Manzano "La Faraona" and Rosario Montoya "La Farruca". These artists undeniably exude strength. Today we explore body movements portraying confidence and empowerment. Timeslips method will be implemented for Storytelling time.

September 20th- We meet the babies! Brothers Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya "Farruquito", Antonio Fernández Montoya "El Farru", Manuel Fernández "El Carpeta" and cousin Juan Fernández Montoya, “Barullo”.
