Middle school lessons we learn too late
The new school year is full of opportunities — for those who know what to do, and when. In this talk for parents, Professor Po-Shen Loh will share practical (and perhaps surprising) advice on how to help students get on track for very strong success, as they return to school. Success comes from aiming in the right direction and then working hard, not the other way around. The beginning of a year in middle school is a crucial time to aim. The tips will span from intellectual (e.g., better ways to learn math) to interpersonal (how to shatter "nerd" stereotypes).

Prof. Loh's recommendations draw from a unique range of experiences. He works with some of the world's most vital high school math students as the national coach of the USA International Math Olympiad team. He witnesses their ongoing development in college and beyond, as a math professor himself. He also understands a much wider range of students and helps them reach standout success too. In each recent year, he has also been the most-widely traveled math coach in the USA. Last year, he gave 75 in-person talks in 50 cities nationwide, meeting thousands of students and parents, learning their challenges, and devising solutions. Most recently, he also created a nationwide program that identifies strong high school math students ( and guides them to develop powerful interpersonal skills, to create the complete package. He himself is a social entrepreneur and inventor with multiple patents.
