Demystifying Policy and Advocacy: Building Relationships with Local Officials
How and why should Community Foundations engage in policy and advocacy? What is the value of CFs connecting with and educating local officials about the issues and needs in our communities? Many CFs have wrestled with whether and how they should develop relationships with local elected officials and question what benefits exist for dedicating staff and time to this effort. Additionally, CFs are struggling to define what their engagement in the advocacy and policy space should look like.
Join us on December 13 to learn more about CFs engaging in advocacy and policy, initial thoughts on the upcoming Virginia General Assembly, and updates on federal legislation affecting Community Foundations. There will also be time for CF members to talk about their work in this area —who is developing relationships with local elected officials, what has worked, the benefits, and suggestions of how to begin this work.
