NorCal NECA/IBEW 595 Joint Safety Committee
In response to the many major wildfires in California, Cal/OSHA passed a wildfire smoke prevention emergency regulation in 2019. In early 2021, the regulation became permanent: Title 8 CCR Section 5141.1.

During this one-hour presentation, Cal/OSHA will discuss the health effects of wildfire smoke, the new regulation, and the steps workers and employers can take for protection against wildfire smoke hazards.

About the Speaker: David started work for Cal/OSHA in 2009 as a compliance officer in Oakland. He spent his first summers with Cal/OSHA performing heat inspections in the early days of the heat illness prevention standard. He is currently a Senior Safety Engineer focused on heat illness prevention, agricultural safety, and wildfire smoke protections. David received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2002 and a Master in Public Health in 2007 from UC Berkeley. David is a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
