50 Years of Friendship and Exchanges
2022 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries of Japan and Mongolia. The countries already enjoy a robust strategic partnership in the political, cultural, and economic spheres, but now the two governments announced 2022 as the “Year of Friendship and Exchanges between the Mongolian and Japanese Children and Youth.” The commemoration of this significant anniversary stresses the two countries’ stable, reliable, and friendly relations. Mongolia’s Foreign ministry organized symposiums and exhibits to highlight and honor the fruitful relationship throughout 2022.

The 50th anniversary of Japan-Mongolia diplomatic relations presents both Mongolian and Japanese communities with opportunities strengthen and refresh the current formal and informal relationships. As stated by the Mongolian Secretary of State Ankhbayar Nyamdorj, “Mongolia-Japan strategic partnership not only includes strengthening bilateral relations but also will contribute to the peace and security of the region and its development.” Following the Ulaanbaatar Dialogues on Northeast Asian Security and subsequent conversations on the importance of the Indo-Pacific’s connectivity, both Japan and Mongolia must continue to collaborate for the benefit of the region.

As stated in The Diplomat, “Since his appointment as a Japanese ambassador to Mongolia, Kobayashi Hiroyuki has been supportive of intellectual activities that were initiated by his predecessor, Takenori Shimizu. For example, the Mongolian Seminars, organized by Chuo University, play a role in continuing the Japan-Mongolia relations and its narrative.”
