"Plants Against Passports"
Much before Indian independence in 1947, some of its writers and artists were thinking of the relationship between plant life and the nation state. What are the political models that they found in plant life? I shall speak on some of these plant thinkers of 20th century Bengal.

Bio: Sumana Roy is the author of How I Became a Tree, a work of nonfiction, Missing: A Novel, My Mother’s Lover and Other Stories, and two poetry collections, Out of Syllabus and V. I. P: Very Important Plant. She is Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Ashoka University.
