With respect to migration, older people confront particular challenges and difficulties. A number of serious problems of health and mental well-being in pre- and post-migration are a major concern for older refugees.
In addition to being disregarded when it comes to their unique health requirements, older refugees are rarely acknowledged for their contributions to their families and communities. Therefore, long-term integration of older refugees in a host community is another considerable problem after the initial settlement period.
As a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Health and Social Policy at the University of Glasgow with extensive experience in ageing in contexts of forced displacement research, Dr Alistair Hunter will lead a discussion on ‘’We Are Under the Same Sky: Settlement Experiences for Older Refugees”.
