Ellenhorn New Perspectives Series: Pandora's brain: curiosity, mental health and resilience
What is curiosity? What role does it play in mental health and illness? How can curiosity be undermined by trauma and psychopathology? This presentation will answer such questions via an exploration of the advances in psychology and neuroscience that help us better understand this vital developmental force and the ways in which we can harness it in ourselves and our clients in order to promote recovery.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this presentation, the participants will be able to:

1. Discuss theories of the biological underpinnings and psychological mechanisms of curiosity, including curiosity as a relational capacity.
2. Explain how curiosity may be affected by psychiatric illness, medications, and trauma.
3. Describe how curiosity may be used in clinical encounters to deepen understanding and facilitate creativity and growth.
