Cllr Tracey McMahon Houghton Regis Town Council
01:23:18
We employed a Community Worker to engage with yp’s through the youth club.
Cllr Tracey McMahon Houghton Regis Town Council
01:24:04
This then fed into our local authority who have now set up a Youth Parliament

The Youth Council ran its own Knife Crime initiative last year after there was a rise in knife crime in the town, after a young person was stabbed in the local shopping centre in broad daylight. They have gone on to gain many awards for this, both from the councils, but also the High Sheriff, and the police.
Cllr Tracey McMahon Houghton Regis Town Council
01:29:38
The Community Worker is there to help with their sourcing funding, and they have successfully done this to fund their own projects.
Mathew Hulbert, Barwell Parish Councillor
01:30:23
Interestingly, from a parish council point of view, a lot of this sounds like things that would be undertaken a level up from us at our local Borough Council. For example, it runs an annual 'democracy' day conference.
Marion Hine Framlingham Council
01:30:44
We have just funded our strong local youth group to open a new centre in the town centre, and to run sessions at a pavilion near our state park
Mathew Hulbert, Barwell Parish Councillor
01:32:25
At parish level we're currently looking at funding a youth worker in our village, via a separate organisation.
Johanna Edwards - Haydon Wick Parish Council
01:34:28
Matthew Hulbert: which organisation are you using? What made you decide to move in that direction? We are in the process of recruiting for a Youth Worker.
Mathew Hulbert, Barwell Parish Councillor
01:35:04
We're in discussion with a group called Young Leicestershire.

I like the idea of a Youth Award - are there any specific requirements that would stand out from other youth related organisations
Mathew Hulbert, Barwell Parish Councillor
01:55:02
Thanks for an interesting meeting.
Aynsley Jones - Cranbrook Town Council
01:55:15
Thanks Louise we do engage with services with Space and Youth Genesis but the youth don't engage which are street based and have a bus. I was talking about holding a youth Conference or a space where they can meet and run their own events or projects. Many come to see me at Council offices.
Benedicta Lasoye
01:55:32
I don't want to reinvent the wheel, but love the idea of awarding a young person for their community achievements
Cllr SpaldingBlidworth PC
01:55:46
Blidworth parish council are in the early stages of setting up a youth forum involving all our schools local girlguiding groups and youth groups who have all played a big role in designing our new skate park and park in our village all design aspects and equipment were chosen by the children anf young people and the consultation period was held to suit them and we have representatives from each group invited to join all of our meetings
Cllr Andrew Malloy - Knutsford Town Council
01:59:17
Benedicta, we have Town Awards and a specific Youth Award, we awarded two great kids who litter pick in a local park see video here https://youtu.be/K6520yGzfYw

Hi Andrew - thank you so much. I will have a look at this
Emma Scott - Dorchester Town Council
02:00:44
Along with young people, I wrote a guide on how Town and Parish Councils can involve young people - as well as some guidance aimed at young people. It was about 10 years ago so a bit out of date, but anyone is welcome to use!
Cllr Tracey McMahon Houghton Regis Town Council
02:02:47
Our Pride of Houghton Awards includes a Young Person award, but our Youth Council wanted to facilitate their own awards that enabled them to offer a broader spectrum of categories. They organised, and ran it themselves with some supervision from the community officer.
Cllr Tracey McMahon Houghton Regis Town Council
02:04:15
Our Youth Council also have their own identity with printed hoodies and name badges with the Town Council emblem, so they are easily recognisable in the community
