It's like paying for a warranty in advance. As long as it's invoiced ahead of time, it's federally accepted. (We had this question internally already)

If university infrastructure is charging PI, shouldn't it be considered allowable costs in DMSP?

I meant if university is charging PIs for storing data, I think it is allowable cost,

I agree Seonyoung. If there is a standard cost that the University charges everyone, then it can be charged to the grant. But if non-grant funded people are not charged, you can't just make up a charge for someone who receives grant funding.

Thanks Chetna! We have Research Infrastructure Storage service that offers storage based on a tier system so fee varies depending on how much data you store and how much you archive. I told PIs that these fees are allowable cost based on what NIH has been saying. Do you agree? If not, I might ask NIH directly to get clarification.

Very much agree Seonyoung. That matches all the budget guidance I've seen on other projects for similar costs.

We offer Box for free but this one is not. It seems to be this is a perfect example of allowable cost.

No reviewers don't get to see the full DMS plan. They wlll only see the half page summary in budget justification
