Can you provide me a copy of any power-point presentations because my disability prevents me from writing with speed. My email address is kimrisser3575@gmail.com

I would also like to request the ppt - kathismc@yahoo.com
Beth Burt

Hi Everyone, We will be sending out the powerpoint and the recording tomorrow to everyone who registered for this presentation. The recording will go up on our website as well.

You are welcome!

how am I eligible for self-determination; I currently reside in an eight-bed facility in the Inland Empire. I'd like to see if I'm a candidate for this program. Please send all pertinent information to my email address which is kimrisser3575@gmail.com. Thank you for all your assistance with my request. I used to be a consumer of independent living, but after the state changed the criteria I have been the group home system
Kim Risser

Dustlyne Beavers
52:33
Kim- Individuals living in a group home can still be eligible. Living in a place like a skilled nursing facility would require you to move out of the skilled nursing facility.
Dustlyne Beavers
54:08
Kim- You can be in SDP and live in a group home as long as it meets the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) requirements.

59:22
how is self determination different from in home support services?
Dustlyne Beavers
01:00:35
In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is a county operated program that is considered a generic resource by the regional center.

Dustlyne Beavers
01:01:42
Self-Determination is a program that lets you choose your own provider if you need support at home and your community that is extra from IHSS.
Susan Bolton-Johnson
01:02:30
What kinds of services can you pursue under self-determination?
Beth Burt
01:03:00
Question from Randa (I want to make sure we get everything answered) If you switch to self-determination, does that change respite services and the medi-cal waiver?
Dustlyne Beavers
01:03:30
In traditional, if you needed additional help at home or in the community, you would choose an ILS (Independent Living Service) or SLS (Supportive Living Service) vendor provider off a list. In Self-Determination, you don't have to choose a vendor to help you at home.
CIndy Cox
01:03:36
Susan: https://www.dds.ca.gov/initiatives/sdp/resources-and-tools/
Dustlyne Beavers
01:04:57
Rand- No, going to SDP does mean you have to change your respite. What would be important is to make sure that your provider will accept payment from a Financial Management Service provider instead of being paid by regional center accounting.
Dustlyne Beavers
01:06:03
SDP is a waiver program and services you received from Medi-caid waiver can transfer over, including deeming for MediCal under 18. Hope that helps.
Randa Fletcher
01:08:31
Yes, it does. Thank you!
Dustlyne Beavers
01:09:47
Randa- I caught a typo- You do NOT have to change your respite provider as long as they accept payment from FMS. :-)
Kim Risser
01:10:18
can you email information to kimrisser3575@gmail.com because writing is very difficult
Randa Fletcher
01:10:28
How do you get recreation classes paid? How do we get a company to partner with SDP
CIndy Cox
01:11:32
Randa, Hire a good, experienced Independent Facilitator. they can help
Dustlyne Beavers
01:12:33
I agree with Cindy. Once you are in SDP, you can work with your FMS to help set-up your providers to be paid.
Dustlyne Beavers
01:13:15
Most providers are good with being paid by the FMS. A good IF can help you navigate all the different steps.
Randa Fletcher
01:13:39
Is an independent facilitator part of self determination? Or is that person an outside person that we have to pay for them to advocate?
Dustlyne Beavers
01:14:22
It is someone that can help you get into to SDP. Regional Centers can pay your IF up to $2,500 to help with the SDP transition.
Dustlyne Beavers
01:14:43
Ongoing IF support would be paid for out of your SDP budget and through your Spending Plan.
CIndy Cox
01:14:52
Randa: Funding is provided for an Independent Facilitator to transition you into SDP. It is an outside person
Randa Fletcher
01:16:22
thank you! This information is really needed to help switch
Beth Burt
01:19:27
From Margaret: We have trouble finding staff. Any tips?
Randa Fletcher

Translation of Delfina's question: My son is 22 years old, and my coordinator says it's not worth self-determination, because he has only respite, so he is in the IPP.
Kim Risser
01:31:03
Could you provide me some additional materials or resources so I may pursue this service / program through my particular Regional Center
Julie Hillstead
01:31:10
Thank you for the great information. I must sign off, now.
CIndy Cox
01:31:56
Delfina: NOT TRUE. There could be other unmet needs. Please talk with an Independent Facilitator.
Kim Przybylla
01:31:56
my oldest daughter doesn't like to go outside or be by people to interact
Dustlyne Beavers
01:31:56
Shellie: Yes, updating the IPP happens to reflect items in your PCP and services you want to fund in your Spending Plan.
Dustlyne Beavers
01:32:53
Shellie- Your regional center should not change your IPP to state that they will not fund services before you transition.
Shellie Zias-Roe
01:33:39
But, an updated IPP will happen? We just went through his IPP.
Kim Przybylla

My son loves trains. Would taking a train to Disneyland be a service that could be covered? I would like him to learn how to use public transportation.

Dustlyne Beavers
01:42:26
There are requirements and restrictions that apply to being a paid IF.
CIndy Cox
01:43:16
Very important to find an experienced IF.
Kim Risser
01:43:17
can you please email the resources for self-determination/qualifications for this program because I have difficulty writing with any speed.
Shellie Zias-Roe
01:43:43
Thank you! That’s perfect!
Dustlyne Beavers
01:43:45
If you want help getting all the way through the transition process, be careful that you do not spend the entire $2,500 allowed on a Person Centered Plan and only a plan.
Dustlyne Beavers
01:46:03
IFs often attend local SDAC meetings
Beth Burt
01:47:22
From Margaret: If our plan shows $20 or $19 per hour for staff and I can't find anyone willing to work for that, can I pay more as long as I don't go over the budget/spending plan?
Dustlyne Beavers
01:48:49
Margaret: I would talk to your FMS and have them work with you to determine what you can pay so you get the coverage you need and not go over budget. Including things like overtime.
Dustlyne Beavers
01:50:03
Thank you panel, great topic and hope you have a great rest of your evening!

01:57:52
From Kim: could you give me Self-determination criteria for this service. I used to be a consumer of SLS, but I had heath complications so I now live in a residential facility; this servicve souds very appealing to me.
Shellie Zias-Roe
01:58:53
Are service coordinators worried they will lost their jobs?
Kim Przybylla
01:59:37
I live in Illinois
Dr Doug Perkins
02:00:29
CSCs should not be worried about their jobs being lost. No reason, I'm aware of the Rc system.
Karin Straumietis
02:01:33
Love the Panel!!!!
Shellie Zias-Roe
02:02:51
Thank you for this workshop. Very helpful.
Christina Christenson-Rockwell
02:03:08
Kim, this program is specific to California. However each state may have their own program. I recommend checking with your local social services department or if there are regional centers there.
MARGERET FRITZ

Thank you so much!!

02:03:41
We only have respite service in traditional service. With Self determination program, we have more services. There’s are unmet needs and new needs you can add in SDP.
