I have heard it is best to cut the lawn short in the fall to avoid fungus and disease, is that true?

Lots of native perennial flowers and native grasses grow naturally together. Carex pensylvanica is a clumping native grass-like sedge that grows well in dry shade under trees and shrubs and allows all sorts of spring ephemerals like Virginia Bluebells, Celandine Poppy, and Tiarella cordifolia to grow with them. Taller native clumping grasses, like Little Bluestem, grow nicely in full sun with tall perennials like Common Milkweed, Joe Pye Weed, Mountain Mint, etc.

Your knowledge/thoughts on lawn weed germination & pH. Read this - increase pH (lime) for the lawn & weed seeds can't germinate easily. Also, I do like white clover in my lawn, will Zoisha(?) grass be compatible with white clover?

You mentioned nobody waters their lawn properly. I typically just let the rain handle it; is there a 'best' way to water the lawn?

We have a lot of spiders and flea beetles in our lawn which drives my husband crazy when mowing and walking on the lawn. Is the presence of these insects a sign of an issue or a lawn ecosystem out of balance? Anything we should do here?
Rita Tomassetti

it seems like so much work between watering and re-planting and reseeding when there are native grasses that once established do not need to be fussed over so much. As far as Japanese beetles, there are native wasps that will use the grubs to feed their young like the Scolia Dubia wasp, which you could have if you had pollinator garden 😊

Doesn't milky spore hang around for years? I did it one Summer and it (and the Skunk I had visiting) took care of my grub problem.
