Can I ask, have you managed to engage the hard to reach young people in your youth council? Or are the young people generally already engaged in wider community/citizenship activities.

One thing that attracts young people to work with councils is to declare a climate emergency and drive ambitious climate and nature action. Young people like to get involved with this and it is a great way to reach the young (and old) one of our projects in Hazlemere is we are creating a massive "bee corridor" we are delivering wildflower seeds to 4000 houses in order for each home to put a 1 m2 of wildflowers in their front garden. The attached leaflet has a bee logo on the back which can be stuck into house windows. This project has caught everyone's interest and from the we are setting up a youth climate action working party. Stroud District has a very active and engaged Youth Council that is co-ordinated with the District Youth Workers. They recently presented to Stroud District Council during a debate and received wide support for their contribution.

I set up a Stratford-upon-Avon Youth Town Council last year, initially we had 11 members, now we have young people writing in asking to join. Young people are amazing. They created their own terms and set the ages from 13-18. They have their own Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer and Clerk.
Cllr Gill Cleeve
01:22:17
Everyone involved with our Youth Council has had DBSand safeguarding training.
Hannah Graham
01:23:04
I am 46 and feel like a youngster battling the Council. I can’t imagine how daunting it is for one in 20s or 30s

Chelsey you suggest Tik Tok but it is very hard to target the local area. If I post there the views come from all over the World. How do you target local youth? Almost no one searches for #hazlemere Thanks Ed Gemmell Hazlemere Parish Council

Please do drop me an email and we can take it from there.Just to give you some background information about me. I am Faversham Town Councils Marketing and Admin Assistant. I am only 21 years of age, so it does give me a very niche position in terms of the youth.
Dawn Carey
01:31:00
Have joined as Sally webb, I have an account purely for the charity and hide behind a fake name sounds dodgy but its just for my privacy lol
Ros Brown
01:31:57
Q for Claire G - we've recently found NALC doesn't provide any Safeguarding CYP and Adults at Risk Policy guidance - please can this be looked into because as councillors we're in a position of trust but this safeguard is currently missing
Robin Layfield
01:33:06
Is there a link for that Diversity and Optimality paper available?
ED GEMMELL
01:34:40
To create informality use "working parties" - no need to follow formal PC rules, lots of jokes and fun - we have them for Climate Emergency, Community Involvement, Neighbourhood Plan, etc
Rose Hitchens
01:36:14
We hosted a 'Youth Action Forum' and invited any community partners (including police, school, asb team, charities, sports clubs, youth workers etc,) with interest in youth provision and engagement to come along and presented to them the Town Council's strategy and asked for support, discussed potential challenges and how to overcome them, themes etc. Asked for their advice and input and talked about their ideas and how we could work together. We now have lots of organisations ready to market, promote and nominate young people to be a part of the Youth Council. Rose, Camborne Town Council, Cornwall.
