What communities come to mind for you when thinking about this program? What level of direct funding would be most beneficial to local efforts? Are there any opportunities or resources we are missing on this list? Are there tensions you see within this resource list? What costs (expected or unexpected) have communities/regions faced during broadband planning?
Martha Howell
25:45
Lubec just approved the Selectboard to apply for funding. We are now starting to look for all those types of support. We expect some assistance as project manager and with outreach for pre-subscribing. Also defending against Spectrum!
Dave Witting
25:50
I have a question for Great Diamond Island
Elaine Abbott
26:27
What community/regional match will be required?
Steve Sawyer
29:38
Hi all -
Maggie Drummond-Bahl
29:52
There are recordings of all meetings held to date on the Maine Connectivity Authority website! if you want to go back and listen to Reach ME and Connect the Ready.
Dave Witting
30:08
Thanks
Lisa Leahy, Axiom
30:25
A challenge I see for many communities is understanding how complicated and time consuming the Make Ready/Pole Licensing process can take. These efforts can often add significant time to a build and eventual service. So, helping communities understand the realities of big time constraint items would be helpful.
Kit O'Meara
30:37
Can you please forward the same info to Kit O'Meara and Rob Cushman from GDI that you are sending to DAve Witting? We should all be working together for Great Diamond as we all want broadband.
Maggie Drummond-Bahl
30:49
Thank you Lisa - helpful feedback.
Kit O'Meara
31:07
My email is KITROMEARA@GMAIL.COM
Chris Waite
32:21
Is there consensus from MCA on what constitutes HLD vs LLD engineering for the application process?
Martha Howell
33:11
And when will that help become availble? We are looking for our grant in October, and contract about that time. Will you have project review person available by that time?
Myles Smith - Maine Broadband Coalition
33:47
Yes! Thanks Kendra Jo! Maine Broadband Coalition is here to help folks with tools for community engagement. You can contact me at myles@mainebroadbandcoalition.org to start a conversation!
Lisa Leahy, Axiom
35:14
Thanks for speaking to that Kendra Jo!
Ken Burke
35:41
At what point do you recommend an engineering survey be done? What is the experience of other communities?
Sarah Strickland
37:53
What is the easiest way to learn which providers are on which roads and poles?
Stephenie Mac
38:11
Ken, feel free to elaborate here or raise hand to come off mute to ask your question with more clarity or detail...
Maggie Drummond-Bahl
38:33
We would welcome suggestions for: additional technical support you'd like to see provided as part of this program? Size of grant to the community or communities, and examples of what you might use the funding for?
Stephenie Mac
39:08
Sarah, many questions are already answered in our FAQ posted online, which will continue to be revised through program designing: https://www.maineconnectivity.org/all-in-faqs
Stephenie Mac
39:20
Specifically, Today, you can visit the Maine Broadband Coalition’s website to take and view Maine Broadband Speed Testing Initiative. Also, you can find internet service providers listed by county in the Ratewatcher Guide as a starting place. This fall, you can view the Broadband Intelligence Platform to better understand broadband service availability across the state.
Michael Elliott, Mission Broadband
39:55
For this program, are there defined criteria for selection of which projects to fund? For those who are awarded Get Ready funding and successfully complete the project, is there an advantage on their infrastructure application when they have a plan to build? Such as a logical flow to next steps, etc.
Martha Howell
41:02
So, do we need to be applying for a grant in order to request assistance by outreach and proj mgr?
Maggie Drummond-Bahl
41:54
Martha - yes; you will want to fill out the expression of interest for Get Ready to get started.
Lisa Leahy, Axiom
42:28
If an entity does not qualify for assistance in Connect the Ready, will they be considered in another round? Will they receive feedback on how they can improve their application?
Martha Howell
42:49
Thank you. We are currently looking into those services.
Lisa Leahy, Axiom
43:24
Thanks!
Stephenie Mac
44:04
We would welcome suggestions for: additional technical support you'd like to see provided as part of this program? Size of grant to the community or communities, and examples of what you might use the funding for?
Martha Howell
44:49
Rough estimate at this point is $25-$30K
Christa Thorpe
45:16
I can't!
Christa Thorpe
45:26
Host has diabled
Ken Burke
45:33
Are you asking for a “total" planning budget estimate?
Martha Howell
46:39
Yes. It would include both an engineer to rep the town with Axiom, and also the marketing to get pre subs, and push back Spectrum.
Maggie Drummond-Bahl
47:23
Ken: we're asking what size grant a community might need, not including technical support that will be provided within this program from MCA.
Martha Howell
48:34
Christa, we will be coming for the marketing etc. We are speaking with a couple consultants for proj mgr.
Sarah Strickland
48:41
I have averaged 15-30 hours per month for the past 6 months.
Christa Thorpe
48:56
That's helpful Martha, thanks!
Maggie Drummond-Bahl
49:20
To Kendra Jo's point: We are expecting MCA to play a "matchmaking" role with community needs and technical support contracted with MCA.
Stephenie Mac
49:44
We will also continue taking feedback as program designing continues: https://www.maineconnectivity.org/get-ready-community-support
Martha Howell
51:10
But again, we would need to have gone through the appllication for $$ process ffirst, before asking for a lawyer to look at some document?

Is there an available pool of successful plans that can provide working structure and perspective to those closer to the front of the process?
Paul Towle
58:00
In Aroostook we are still struggling with the mapping mystery and it's chewing up resource to identify our gaps. Will this be resolved comprehensively across Maine via Broadband Intelligence Platform for the benefit of all projects/regions? If so, when?
Elaine Abbott
58:21
What if a community/region only wants fiber?
Stephenie Mac
58:33

01:03:22
If we're planning on a “fiber only” approach - do you want to hear from us now, or wait for a formal submission or plan?
Stephenie Mac
01:04:13
Depends on all aspects of the proposed project, readiness and fit with Connect the Ready, Ken

Ken Burke asked: Is there an available pool of successful plans that can provide working structure and perspective to those closer to the front of the process? (this would be useful for us also)
Stephenie Mac

We do keep looking for interest through the County by Trescott and Edmunds, but Lubec is moving forward on its own at this time. THANKYUO
