Corfe Castle PC have set up a working group re: organising a celebration event for The King’s Coronation. A meeting is being advertised in the monthly Parish News (and on its website and FB page) in the hope that other village groups (such as Festivities, Aquarius, Crazy 4 Corfe) will wish to work together on organising an event. The main thinking is to have 1 event possibly a BBQ or picnic with a local band playing general easy listening music on Monday 8th May. The National Trust have already offered use of the Castle. In addition, if anything is nationally mentioned about a beacon lighting, then CCPC will join in with that as well.

At Stoke Ferry we hold an annual summer fayre and we are going to move that to the Coronation weekend , Sunday May 7th.We will have a BBQ, Band and various other activities for kids. As we already run an annual fayre it won't take much to book the usual stalls although we may add some specific activities such as "make your own crown" type of thing nearer to the time.If there is a beacon lighting we will take part as we have a permanent beacon in place.

Colwich PC, Staffordshire are holding our 2nd village fete with stalls, food etc and and children's entertainment with live music through into the evening. We spent £500 last year on a permanent beacon so I am disappointed to find we can't use it this year but it will last for years so we can use it again. The Platinum Fete was so well received we had been planning to repeat it alternate years but hey ho, it has become annual

When can we expect the Royal Palace to announce guidance?

We are planning to get the community together - Saturday day and into the evening. Picnic/food trucks, live music and activities for the children. Early stages of planning.

West Bletchley will be holding a big street party open to all and Woughton community Council is planning a Party on the Green for picnics, music and TV coverage

As with the Queens funeral licensing regulations to screen the event were waivered, enabling the community hubs to show it and the community to get together. Is this the case for The Coronation? If so, do we know the timings of the ceremony and TV coverage?

The main thing we need to know is What Time Is It?

Aldworth PC are showing the coronation on Saturday on the big screen in the Village Hall, with the bunting out and tables set for a bring your own picnic / lunch / snack depending on the timings. We also hope to serve Pimms. On the Monday we are doing a whole village photo on the recreation ground!

Can we light our beacon?

Do we expect official artwork, logos etc for the production of posters etc

Cranleigh Parish Council are working with community organisations to hold a celebration based around our High Street on Sunday 07 May 2023 11.00am to 5.00pm. There will be a craft fair, hog roast, ice creams, children’s roundabouts, youth music band, local band and choir. The Scouts and Guides are making red, white and blue craft decorations for the High Street.

Temporary event notices administered by our District Council.....they did waive the fees for temporary road closures too to enable street parties so if NALC could investigate this that would be helpful

Have all councils here either discussed the coronation in a meeting or had it scheduled for a future meeting? With the guidance coming out so late it may be difficult for councils to turn around all the activity in time?

Charlotte - we held our budget meeting last night, and approved spend for this event. Councillors are reluctant to put firm plans in place until guidance Is issued, especially with memorabilia.

we have to give our budget for precept by end of Jan so have had to guess funds required

I added this to the January agendas. One meeting was on 11th and the other is scheduled for 23rd. If they don't give me anything concrete at these meetings I doubt I'll be able to pull everything together in time!

Will the Church of England be issuing guidance too, so that local councils can coordinate activities with their local church?

Winchester CC has discussed and hoping to support in a grand style! Notices/requests already gone out about closing of streets for parties . My own Parish has already put a deposit down for a large screen to place in the village square anticipating there will be high demands from many different quarters.

We would like to know whether we can place union jacks on lamp posts like we were allowed to for the Jubilee. We are in Hampshire and their street lighting contractor don't usually allow it but did for about 10 days over the jubilee. any national pressure that can be applied might be useful.

For Info: in light of climate change/emergency actions my council will not authorise the production of mugs/coins/badges/flags etc, to minimise waste going to landfill. Better to have a more sustainable option such as wildflower seed packets/bombs for the children.

How far in advance can we put up bunting?

Our bunting is scheduled to be put up on the 18th April in time for St George's Day and will remain in place until September. We're using eco friendly bunting too.

Perhaps the guidance could include allowing time needed to get the necessary licencing consents, road closures, food safety, emergency services notifications etc.

Just to amuse you all. I was only 3 years old at the last Coronation, however my father photographed to procession in the Mall using a periscope to lift his camera, which caused consternation on the faces of military men who wondered what was being pointed at them. he was accompanied by a friend of the family who was an African missionary on furlough. he took a large volume of sermons with him, saying that there was bound to be a long wait and that gave him something to read. In fact when the procession arrived he used the volume to stand on to get a better view.

We are planning improvements to our local wood anyway, so it would be great to know what trees/plants King Charles might favour. We could put plaques in the wood to commemorate the Coronation!
