We would like to develop our cabin into our retirement residence. We would like to make it as energy efficient and resilient to reduce our carbon footprint as well as for economic reasons. Thank you

Would love the link to that video.

01:00:06
I would like the link as well.

01:00:50
Could it please be emailed to us along with the survey?

01:01:17
Here is the link to the video Kim shared! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SdNA2o_TIQ

01:01:45
We will include it in the follow up email as well.

I put solar panels on my house recently using the greener homes grant to help. Do you have any thoughts on a cold weather heat pump for the Calgary area?

01:12:54
Is there an optimal order to replace/ renovate/ refit regular homes built to code ( maybe 25 years + ago) to move towards becoming more towards a passive house? If I need to prioritize my efforts, what are the best areas for me to focus on, especially if money is tight and I might not have the $$$ to engage a dream team? Is there a way to do this piecemeal or in little steps?

01:13:33
I live in a built to code home. Is there a list of some kind that we can pick away at to make our house more passive or is this possible?

01:16:51
Im also seeing a lot of wood on interior ceilings. Does this do something in the way of holding in heat?

01:21:15
Does anyone know of a window provider that would be knowledgeable about PH?

01:23:00
Loving the questions, keep them coming! We've left time for questions and will make sure to get to them all once Kim is done sharing her presentation.

Would the MNA housing program home improvement grant apply to a PH upgrade?

01:40:16
Its called 'home repairs assistance'

01:41:40
After the assessment at your house are you required to commit to the upgrades in order to have their assessment covered?

01:41:55
Hi Kayley- I am not 100% sure if it would, I can't see why not... but I don't want to speak on behalf of Metis Housing. I would encourage you to reach out to Metis housing and ask them!

01:44:02
Is their a point in getting your home air tight that you need to look at getting better air exchange?

01:45:03
Clarifying- when discussing windows, it was said vinyl was ok- but did I hear right that wood is best, then fibre glass, and then vinyl in terms of quality?

01:46:26
I’ll just share the follow up survey below if anyone would like to queue it up during the question period!

01:46:28
I don’t know what the door blower test process is… could you please explain? Thank you!

01:51:03
don't wood Windows require a lot of maintenance to the frames over time?

01:53:03
Does a good door make a big difference, or is it more important to seal whatever door you have? Is it possible to have energy efficient sliding doors?

01:55:33
Are there any incentives for condo buildings/condo corporations? How could condo dwellers make greener choices?

01:55:56
I had a blower test done to my 116 year old home in Calgary. The house is lathe & plaster so not much insulation in the walls. In fact I found newspaper insulation when I removed some shiplap to add a solarium (facing south:) I replaced all the windows and my heating bill dropped by half. Unfortunately in the 1950's our gov't gave grants to people to blow asbestos insulation into the attic. When I realized that I had it, I removed it and put insulation in. I have a high efficient furnace and small hot water tank. The house heats quickly & it is on a programmed thermostat. I am so happy that everything you spoke about I have done. Thank you for providing this session. I have heard of PH homes so glad I came!!

01:57:50
How do you know which door is a good choice? Is fibreglass better than wood, etc.

01:58:58
no just find this interesting!

01:59:08

02:00:51
sorry, can't get video or audio to work. it froze

02:02:15

02:09:57
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YYXQQWNWill just share this link to the survey again as we near the end of the session- we’d love for everyone to fill out our follow up survey. The survey will ask questions regarding how this online engagement session went. We welcome any feedback you can provide to help us improve these sessions!

02:10:09
At the end of the survey, if you are an MNA citizen and can provide your citizenship number, you will be able to enter your name into a draw to win a $100 Visa GC. You will receive this survey by email in the next few days as well.
