electrical goods certainly don’t last as long as they used to. Washing machines 8-10 yrs as opposed to the old days of 20 years.

Upparel is a great option for recycling clothes. They either pass on clothes that you donate to their partners (eg. to Save The Children, Sacred Heart Mission), or they up-cycle clothes into new items, or they recycle them into new materials - www.upparel.com.au

I always offer unwanted clothes to family before donating - the great thing is now my nieces are of the age where they can rummage too and they luv it!

i buy natural products..pure wool, pure cotton and they last a long time. When I’m done, it goes to the op shop, and recently i gave 3 bags to a homeless lady that walks on chapel street all the time.

Savers is great for choice for second-hand clothing and even new items sometimes.

Buy, swap, sell groups on Facebook can be great, some labels/brands have dedicated groups for this

Some op shops organize their clothes and shoes by size which makes rummaging easier!

not too long ago on tv they showed the people in Africa grabbing for the best of the second hand clothes sent there to re-sell, but i think the point was that it goes to landfill there, as not everyone sends quality clothing and it all goes to landfill anyway

true, it’s terrible to know that we sent all our trash to China etc so I’m glad they said NO. as we need to think about our items from purchase to what happens to it at the end of its life
