I think it would be good to vote No then vote for the Republican who would be best for California's leadership in the climate crisis--if there is one.

Just got an email from Jesse Arreguin recruiting for a No Recall Walk on this Sunday, Aug. 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Berkeley, Civic Center Park, 2151 MLK Jr. .Way. This will be a door-to-door canvas.
Anthony Avila
38:02
Passage of recall requires 50% plus one of the vote cast?
Kris Organ
38:03
A write-in for Gavin is not counted by the Recall rules. All other write-ins do count.
Eva Giese
38:34
If you choose to vote for a candidate be certain to vote for a democrat to replace Newsom but it is best to vote for a no recall only.
Kathi Fotinos
38:45
If the recall goes through but none of the candidates get greater than 50% of the votes, is there a run=off
Danett Abbott-Wicker
39:03
Has anyone heard anything about how the wind is blowing? Early polls?
Kristen Loomis
39:11
Wiser to write in the name of the Lieutenant Governor, rather than Newsome, since the original yes vote would wipe out consideration of his name.
Valeeta Pharr
39:46
Great IDEA!!! NO! Write IN Gavin Newsome or is he listed too?
Sue LaVaccare
41:55
My understanding is -for ques 2- the person with most votes wins- no need to reach 50% threshhold to win on ques 2
Jonathan Karpf
42:10
Sue is correct.
Ann McKeown
42:56
Did I understand him to say that there is NO certified right in candidate so that would be a wasted vote?
Sue Goldberg
42:59
did he say a write in candidate would NOT be counted?
Ann McKeown
43:11
Sue that is what I heard.
Peter Shapiro
43:12
yes
Ann McKeown
43:17
Because they aren't certified.
Janice R
44:37
That is what I heard Neal Kelly say - that there are no write-in candidates who qualified for this ballot. However, the voter's response to Question #1 is still counted.
Janice R
45:29
The person being recalled is not allowed to be listed on the ballot is what I'm told by the text and phone banking supervisors.
Hollis Stewart
47:10
No on the 1st ballot question is the only reasonable answer during this pandemic era. Our State government and Governor are doing one of the best jobs on fighting Cv-19 and that affects everyone, especially we seniors.
Danett Abbott-Wicker
47:32
@Hollis, 100%!
Joe Summers
48:13
This was the first time we"ve ever extended the timeline to collect signatures in recall of a Governor
Jonathan Karpf
48:42
There is a large motivation gap between anti-vaxer Trumpistsas and Democrats. The key is to reach as many Democrats as possible so that they vote. We should ALL be text banking and phone banking through whatever organizations to which we’re connected. I’ve been text banking for 2 hours for the past 5 Thursdays with my union CFA. You can also do so with the state Democratic Party.
Penni Perrault
48:49
Clarify please - what EXACTLY will it take for the recall to fail - 50% of those people who voted voting no? - 51%
Jonathan Karpf
49:15
If the yes votes don’t reach 50% plus one then it fails.
Tim Bilash MD
49:18
50% + 1

49:34

49:38
I've read a NYT article that says that the whole Recall protocol / action is unconstitutional in CA. Does anyone know anything about this? And if it's true, why hasn't Gavin sued for this?
(h)Dr Bill PDA Calif Honigman
50:06
@Jonathan K: I agree. Everyone please plan on phone and text banking as much as possible starting TOMORROW!!!
Danett Abbott-Wicker
50:10
@Cheryl, yes! I heard this too. I wonder why Newsom's office isn't moving on this if true!
Heidi Mayer
50:17
Cynthia, laureen, ruth, Nancy, Kris…. I'll be getting postcards to mail.. let me know if anyone wants to meet at an outside café and we can do them together ?
Tina Martin
50:29
Who designed this recall? Why did they make it possible for someone to be elected even with just 18% of the votes?
Ann McKeown
50:32
Neal Kelly, thank you!!!!

Hollis Stewart
51:29
Can you imagine our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren facing their futures with an unstable government during the next few years. We must have some rational thought in Sacramento, not someone who doesn't believe in social programs, DOESEN'T BELIEVE IN THE MIMIMUM WAGE, AND THE PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE MEDICAL SERVICES.
sheila goldmacher
51:31
From Sheila goldmacher: So is it better to vote no on recall and then vote for someone other than a right winger republican listed on the ballot.
Jodi Reid

52:39
Since CA has a duly elected Lieutenant Governor who would take the place of the Governor should he or she not be able to continue to serve for any other reason, why does our recall process not simply install the Lieutenant Governor in the event of a successful recall?
ren S.
52:50
I heard we could write in the lt governor as a write in, but he said write ins have to be approved. If we write her in will her votes be counted even if she is not approved?

I also heard a law professor indicate the small osmalllmvpercentage of potential voters could be unconstitutional

So we should vote NO to recall and vote for candidate Dan Kapelovitz to protect what we have and not lose what we need.
Anthony Avila
53:21
Send me postcards! Anthony Avila 8558 California Av., Whittier, CA 90605.
Jonathan Karpf
54:48
I’m leaning to Richard Gomez’s approach. If by chance Newsom is recalled, I am loathe to let the republicans determine who will be the next governor. Dan Kapelovitz would be the ,most promising Democrat running.

From Dan Kapelovitz’s website:As a Bernie supporter, former NPP, and Green Party member, I, Dan Kapelovitz, have the independence to improve California’s politics. I have the experience and qualifications to protect California from Trumpublicans who want to change it for the worse.Make no mistake: Gavin Newsom could lose this recall! In a bizarre attempt to protect himself, he coerced all arguably qualified Democrats not to take part in the race for who to replace him! I oppose the recall, partly due to Newsom making it so likely that a right-wing Republican will win if he loses. I am also running because I believe I am the only candidate of the broad progressive left who can win and govern effectively.Never voted Green before? Well, this isn’t a normal election! The progressive left needs to get behind someone to beat the Trumpublicans. I’m asking that you support me as that candidate.

Talk to young people and tell them to vote NO to protect their grandparents as well as themselves. Point out what it would do to the budgets of so many families if all of a sudden programs that help seniors and families with medicare were cut back or disabled. This would bring bankruptcy upon so many families and older couples. Destruction of our society as gross increased poverty forced people to undercut each other to survive! Show the youngsters what this would mean for their future.

If anybody has gripes about Newsom not doing enough in any area, next year’s primary and election are the best ways to have all of our voices heard… that’s the message I want to spread about this recall.

01:05:33
We still need universal COVID19 testing and contact tracing and care for all medical conditions that put us at risk. For that we need to pass Single Payer HC AB1400, ASAP. But that sure won't happen with Republicans in charge.

Our (panthers) board has voted to oppose the recall and is urging our members to do so. 501c3 nonprofits, note that we are not lawyers but our best understanding is that we have more latitude to take positions on a measure like this, it is technically not endorsing a candidate or supporting a candidate’s campaign.

Josh Newman was recalled recently from his State Senate seat. He just got re-elected during the general election. Yeah! Let's not let the Republicans win cheap again.

PLEASE just vote NO ON THE RECALL! Then MAIL your ballot!
Frank King

When we talk about a replacement candidate we just confuse people. Vote “NO” and you’re done.

I can understand that only a "No" vote is best in that If I also vote for a lesser of various evils, who I hope will not be in office, anyway, large numbers for Republican candidates might encourage Republicans to think they had achieved some sort of support.

I respectfully disagree. This zoom is preaching to the converted. I have done 24 hours of textbanking to Democrats and some of them are voting yes on the recall. I do not want the folks who support this ridiculous recall deciding who are next governor will be on the chance that more of them vote than we do. While as a general policy to the masses I understand the idea to just kept simple and vote no. But for those of us who have half a brain I think it makes sense to 1) vote NO, and 2) vote for the green candidate, Dan Kapelovitz as he is far better than any of the front-leading Republicans.

ren - the only effect of voting for one of the candidates shown in your voter pamphlet is the high likelihood that we would get a Gov we definitely don't want. People not listed in the voter pamphlet are not eligible to have write-in votes for them counted.
