Community Agreements:W.A.I.T. (Why am I talking? Why am I not talking?)Honor the intent but own the impact (well-intentioned comments can still cause harm)Agree to disagree, but please do not disengage (we encourage leaning into healthy conflict)Feel free to speak “in draft” (a little mess is good, let’s embrace our imperfections)Throw glitter not shade (....self-explanatory?)The chat is part of the meeting (be mindful, agreements apply)

Good morning, friends. I’m Joan Lipkin (she/her) zooming in from the unceded land known as Tongva, currently called LA. I am a writer, director and educator and have been producing several iterations of climate change theatre action and have also been developing curriculum to teach theatrical devising about climate change at the high school and college levels. Have done this at several universities and happy to share if anyone is interested. We are also involved in rallies and movements to protest at the federal reserve banks. Joan.Lipkin@gmail.com

Excited for the sesh at the conference!

I remember when my theatre ensemble was working on revising our Core Values, and we used a costuming exercise developed by Irina Kruzhilina that broke things open for us.

54:18
I would be interested in how you would capture the lessons and outcomes out of the sessions

55:57
Defacing the Animal: Zooesis and Performance byUna Chaudhuri is one thing I’m thinking of

56:05
Thanks Ian!

57:20
That's very true. From a production standpoint, we'd only apply such ideas if the script required it.

58:20
we ask for people to do a brief reflection after our climate change devising workshops w specific questions including about their understanding of their own creative capacity now and that of their classmates as well as how they understand the theme differently. They write privately and then share and the responses are very encouraging. They often say they understand the issues differently after doing creative responses

58:36
Yes, completely agree!

58:51
Thanks, totally understand that approach

59:32
Thinking of sound designers working this way, boosting the amazing work of Rena Anakwe: https://www.aspaceforsound.com/about
