hi all, my name is Lindsey and I'm "visiting" from a CoC in Oregon where I serve as Vice-Chair. We are working on governance and I was excited to see your community convo. I'll be a passive observer and thank you for allowing my attendance.

I'd like to know how we can best support our CoC Board in feeling informed about how decisions are playing out in practice.
Audrey Thomas, she/hers, Deborahs' Place, CEO
14:23
Agreed. And how can we ensure that groups making decisions (new project panel) have all the information before being asked to make a decision.

Ya'll are grappling with the same stuff my CoC in Oregon is grappling with. I feel your pain and you all are not the only ones coping with this.
Audrey Thomas, she/hers, Deborahs' Place, CEO
22:45
But All Chicago staff can steer decisions as they give and interpret information for the board.
Christopher OHara
23:15
Is the Chicago Rents grant a pass through grant through CSH? I ask because the way it is listed in the NOFO. Also, whats happening with the transition grant from Inspiration Corporation?
David Dempsey
27:09
The first board meeting was October 20th the second one was October 29th as I recall.
Christopher OHara
27:23
Nicole, what happened to using the chat to inform decisions at the Board? I couldn't even give perspective from the NPW at the second Board meeting and the irony was Board Members then wanted to know more about the allocation changes to the projects being selected. I don't think that process worked out well for anyone involved.
Christopher OHara
28:33
I would also like to know why written comments were collected and then became another attachement. I have been to many other Boards that convene that read those written comments aloud
Nicole Bahena
29:14
Christ - those were Executive Committee decisions.
Nicole Bahena
29:21
Chris - sorry!
Christopher OHara
42:17
I find a Board has to have a certain comfort level with the work that happens at committees. I know Boards often have questions and concerns. I just wish more often Board members would take the interest in becoming a part of a Committee, especially if there is process and membership questions. I know hindsight is 20/20 but my experience and observations show that all of these things are learning adjustments that help in or commitment to the work. The work of helping people who are need of housing and services
Christopher OHara
47:32
Nicole, are you familiar with different levels of consensus? There is one model that looks at the most against and the most in favor; when the majority of the group would fall closer to consensus. This allows for discussion to what changes need to be done to gain meaningful agreement of the entire group.
Johnna Lowe
50:01
Are you saying this is the goal or the current model?
Nicole Bahena
52:09
Johnna, I'm saying this is how AC is operating, so current model.
Nicole Bahena
52:12
not sure about CSH
Flora Koppel
54:03
on behalf of youth affinity group, they have concerns that the Racial Equity Line of Action has not yet met . It is so crucial that racial equity actually be integrated in all Lines of Actions and more. Time Lines???
Flora Koppel
55:11
okay. I guess the recent cancellations and had not been rescheduled
Flora Koppel
57:31
Front door has not met but Racial Equity was cancelled twice and not rescheduled and as was said Affinity groups are relatively new so the cancellation impacted Affinity group participation.
Johnna Lowe
01:00:44
Yes, great example.
Jackie Edens
01:03:09
Be careful what you ask for, Nicole. :)
Joanne Otte, she/her, Chicago Community Trust
01:04:34
great point
Christopher OHara
01:06:57
LaVida has no conflict of interest. Very refreshing in Cook County lol
Johnna Lowe
01:07:27
I think we can change that LaVida!!! LOL I was in a CES meeting and we realized we have an employment and benefits question that doesn't really lead to anywhere.
Christopher OHara
01:07:48
Carrie Thomas used to be the executive director at CJC. She was a force of nature in employment services and advocacy.
Jackie Edens
01:08:09
Where is Carrie????
LaVida Davis
01:08:20
Johnna we need to change that
Johnna Lowe
01:08:59
Can you drop your email in the chat LaVida?
LaVida Davis
01:09:00
She left CJC in January. forgive me I don't remember where she went
Christopher OHara
01:09:54
I think Carrie went to IDES.
Flora Koppel
01:13:24
I agree that there are weak links and/or unclear links along the way. In terms of Youth Affinity Group , we have decision making processes pretty much in place but are less clear as to how this input truly impacts decisions and actions of the larger system
Christopher OHara
01:14:10
There is a new Affinity group being developed for aging individuals of homelessness. I can remember the name but saw it in the All Chicago announcements. I believe there was a deadline of October 29th to sign up but pretty sure there will be ways to join later. I will keep you posted when I know more. Perhaps other know more of the nuts and bolts.
Christopher OHara
01:14:34
I also know there is a DV Affinity group
Christopher OHara
01:15:01
The Youth Committee meets on the second Tuesday of the month in the morning.
Christopher OHara
01:15:42
I've heard the SPC has ideas and the LEC is also discussing this.
Nicole Bahena
01:19:16
The new on isn't happening yet for sure! They're just exploring :-)
Nicole Bahena
01:19:22
So that ship hasn't sailed already
Johnna Lowe
01:22:36
I love that.
Johnna Lowe
01:23:11
Who is comprised of the EHI workgroup?
Johnna Lowe
01:23:23
Oops. LOL
Laura Bass
01:24:17
The suggestion of an org chart came up in another meeting I was in this week - with a focus on where decisions are made
Flora Koppel
01:24:32
what happens to the line of action when EHI funding halts. at least for me that would be a useful topic for discussion. .
Nicole Bahena
01:24:38
you guys don't think my PowerPoint images are sufficient? :-)
Christopher OHara
01:25:25
I thought the affinity groups are a way to get involved at your comfort level and let the CoC know your progress. Am I misinformed?
Laura Bass
01:25:29
You can't always make reality pretty
Sam Carlson
01:26:34
^ Seconding Laura's point on focusing where decisions are made. Also, it's unclear when a decision necessitates a working group v. being housed in a LOA.
Christopher OHara
01:27:16
My favorite thing is when a meeting gets cancelled or the link changes within 30 minutes of the meeting time
Christopher OHara
01:29:14
I hope calling into meetings could have some time set aside for those who cant always raise their hand in advance. Touching on Audrey's concern on equity and access.
Nicole Bahena
01:31:09
I like that Chris
Carol Mjoseth
01:31:15
What do you think about gathering feedback during a meeting ie instant polling to gauge how people are thinking about a particular topic?
Audrey Thomas, she/hers, Deborahs' Place, CEO
01:31:38
I like that idea Carol. Immediate feedback.
Jackie Edens
01:32:10
YEs, good one Carol.
Christopher OHara
01:33:31
those are good points Joanne
Johnna Lowe
01:35:15
Agreed Laura!
Nicole Bahena
01:35:47
Yes Laura! Esp. for big, strategy decisions.
Johnna Lowe
01:35:55
Yes Jackie!
Laura Bass
01:37:36
I think someone said this already but being mindful of accessibility in virtual meetings - sending out visuals in advance because people may be calling in, having a process for inviting people on the phone to speak.
Jackie Edens
01:38:02
YEP!!!!
Christopher OHara
01:38:32
Thanks Laura for speaking to this. Not everyone has access to post it notes online for example.
Nicole Bahena
01:39:02
Sorry everyone - I didn't realize the time!
Flora Koppel
01:39:08
since robert's rules was mentioned , it can presnt a barrier to some persons discussion and public comment because of limitations. Could educate more on these rules or think of other sustems
Nicole Bahena
01:39:35
Flora, I tried to get the Board Affiars Committee to ditch Roberts rules and they said no :-)
Jackie Edens
01:39:50
As I recall, the SPC was very vocal about its concerns about the HMIS system and migration.
Jackie Edens
01:40:51
well they might not dump RR but they have to absolutely STOP the debating of it during the meeting.
Richard Ducatenzeiler
01:41:30
Thank you for having this discussion
Jackie Edens
01:41:35
This was recorded. how to people access that? Some weren't able to attend today.
Betsy Carlson
01:41:41
Thank you!
Sherri Allen-Reeves
01:41:46
Thanks
Laura Bass
01:41:53
Thanks!

01:41:57
First time I didn't talk :)
