we are an environmental nonprofit so i guess we would be more a bicycle rather than a car

51:36
Love that!

51:48
I said somewhere between a bus and a sports car, because we are very enriched in the community and team oriented but also moving very fast

51:59
We are a Zip car shared vehicle—a great community resource that a lot of people don’t know about yet!

01:12:46
I was a casual members of a tiny local chapter of nonprofit (maybe $6k a year budget) that was given about a million$ in resources when a member died and left them two houses. It was a disaster b/c nobody knew how to handle the money responsibility, and did not want to admit they were over their heads. Ultimately the national org had to take over but it was way too late to recover a lot of lost resources.

01:13:24
(It is *not* my current nonprofit)

01:15:12
Answering all of those components would develop your operational manual

01:15:42
Rory and all, BECU grants have those types of funding goals built into the grant application.

01:16:21
Good grantors will often ask about capacity, and questions that focus on capacity and vision, to be sure.

01:17:00
I do not here Rory

It helps tremendously to create an organizational calendar with these dates clearly marked: annual report, charity filing, IRS form 990, etcetera.

01:35:37
It is wise to collect documents in a way that is accessible to all board members, whether that is a physical notebook or online repository such as a Google Drive.

02:09:36
Nice to have practical steps to move forward...thanks Rory

02:09:47
Very welcome, Toni.

02:10:09
Having records accessible to everyone at all times keeps all members accountable.

02:11:00
Some records may be available only to board, for various reasons, but knowing WHERE the records are and WHO has them helps enormously.

02:11:10
It’s easy to destroy records, but hard to recreate them.

02:13:04
A responsive ED who responds quickly to any request for more information (background materials; minutes, etc) builds trust and rapport with everyone involved.

02:13:48
got a calendar list of what "Rory just said?

02:14:18
Care

02:14:30
Confidentiality which falls under “care.”

02:14:35
Some things to put on the annual calendar include: annual report, charity report, board elections, officer selection, budget creation, fundraising events, state filings such as B&O, Form 990.

02:15:05
Bylaw review naturally follows board elections, as do officer elections to be submitted as annual report.

02:15:12
I chose care because it seems to be the compass for all other things

02:15:54

02:26:39
can't see the eval

02:27:00
Thank you!

02:27:11
It varies between organizations, but I usually do it in the form of a clock: 12 hours plus 12 months, then asking people to contribute what they think needs to be on it. This is an excellent thing for an executive committee to do, Toni, introducing to new board members AND membership.

02:27:44
Thanks for the info and your time! See you next time!
