I was rembering Willie Gholar, whom I'd known for severaly years in CARA, when he off-handedly said he'd been in the first black Army unit and stationed in Kansas, and what harassment they endured. He'd never said anything about this.
Jodi Reid
24:46

It is frightening to remember how ignorant our East Coast liberal family was of the situation for black woman in the 50-60's.E
Diana Madoshi
48:38
Blacks inventors and innovators have contributed vastly to everyday inventions that enhance Americans everyday lives. Look up black inventors. There are now books that highlight these achievments. Kareem Jabbar has a book for young people, “What Color Is Your World?” It is geared for young people but it will inform all.
Susan A Hammer
52:38
That’s what it takes! Stand up and be a mentor and role model for others!!

Pauline, I was attending High School in a town in NJ that was between the Newark and Plainfield race riots in 1967, when the National Guard armory was across the street and the armed troops used our gym to rest.
Jonathan Karpf
01:03:15
It appears that AAPI folks are left out of CARA’s discussion. I’m certain this is not intentional.
Jonathan Karpf
01:04:44

Diana Madoshi

I apologize...I raised hand when told Q&A was opening. The importance of Black History Month to me is that Black Americans built this country, but were not given the acknowledgement they are entitled to.
Carol Draizen
01:22:05
We’re all racists in this country where it is so profoundly embedded so we must devote our lives to be anti-racists

I strongly recommend that everyone read Ibram Kendi's book, Stamped from the Beginning, if you truly want to understand Racism. That book is very enlightening, especially if you are white and you don't think that you are racist, or participate in white privilege. We are all affected by our unconscious biases.
