Before I have to go in 15 mins, I wanted to interject that I am concerned about some of the training being conducted for Peer Specialists. When a framework like Intentional Peer Support is central, there is great attention to the Peer Specialist's function of always being on the supported person's side when addressing system/provider issues. But newer training programs have not emphasized that function at times, and I have liked drawing a parallel between a Peer Specialist's advocacy/rights protection responsibilities and those of a CASA worker's function for children in mental health systems. (CASA=Court Appointed Special Advocate https://nationalcasagal.org/ ) A CASA worker has legal authority to help protect a child from medical model infringements on their rights, and I believe the role of Peer Specialist also needs that type of authority.

That's a good point Jacek. Let me see if we can address it before you have to go.

Medical providers being trained is dependent on the authority support for that at the top of the medical model organization! Gotta run. Thank you so much!!
