Elaine Hill
41:43
ok ;)
Rachel Riggs
43:36
OOOooOOoooOOO RSTA fans these are now aligned to the Staying Healthy curriculum thanks to the makers/rockstars that completed this project!
Rachel Riggs
45:17
We are issuing them for the Digital Skills Library folks too so if any of you are here.. you’ll be getting them too!
Monica Leong
45:52
Question about training teachers on EdTech tools: Can you talk about the approach you took to train folks on the edtech tools at the beginning of the makerspace? And what do you wish you had taken more time to do with Teachers in the training phase before they set off on their curation/creation tasks?
Rachel Riggs
47:17
Great questions, Monica! I am parking these for our Q&A at the end and if we run out of time I’ll be sure to email you.
Rachel Riggs
48:05
I think what the participants share will be insightful, too, so makers if you want to share what was useful to you in the training let us know!
Rachel Riggs
51:51
I see that some makers have added their favorite curated resources in the Padlet, too: https://padlet.com/idealconsortiumworlded/mp972x2bb5ft5ym1
Elaine Hill
52:28
@Monica Leong : Rachel and Jeff did an amazing job training everyone. They used Google Classrooms to keep everything in one place and organized. Their instructions were very detailed, so even non-technical people could follow them. Although I am tech-savvy, Iearned a lot. They also offered open office hours for people who needed help.
Tiffany Lee
54:28
Love free stuff
Rachel Riggs
55:44
I used to use these as warm-ups because they weren’t really aligned to anything so I’m really excited for teachers that use Staying Healthy and now can see some of the listening activities that align.
Kristi Reyes
56:14
WeSpeakNYC is awesome!
Rachel Riggs
56:42
Yes I love WeSpeakNYC, too, Kristi!
Monica Leong
57:01
Not from this project but here's some more free stuff, based on the same principles as the Bow Valley College readers : CIWA health literacy resources for very beginning literacy learners and English learners. Multilingual videos, teacher guide with vocab lists, learner story books, etc etc. https://ciwaresources.com/ciwahlp/
Xavier Munoz
57:44
@Monica, so glad you shared the CIWA health literacy resources. They're amazing!
Monica Leong
58:28
Thanks Xavier! (I'd sure love to see the same kind of MakerSpace event done with these resources too! :)
Rachel Riggs
59:07
Monica, stay tuned! This would fit SO well with what we’re doing this summer.
Elaine Hill
59:31
It is so much more fun to create when you are part of a group ;)
Evelyn Cassano
01:00:03
@Elaine-I agree!
Tiffany Lee
01:00:44
that's sweet!
Elaine Hill
01:02:07
Wakelet was fun to learn
Rachel Riggs
01:04:21
I’m sure the makers are ready to organize a second maker space to tackle the teacher guides, right? Right???
Evelyn Cassano
01:04:40
@ Rachel--bring it!
Monica Leong
01:04:46
Can you talk about how well these things typically look on mobile devices? You mentioned how so many learners only use mobile devices. Do these tools typically make stuff that looks good on mobile devices?
Mary Popp
01:06:11
Has anyone used resources such as Wakelet and Quizlet? I found that we have to have students create accounts first is to use them.
Rachel Riggs
01:06:56
(Faye was a Jamboard rockstar, btw, everyone. She created SO MANY activities even outside of Staying Healthy that were so fun)
Monica Leong
01:08:00
Did Makers actually do any MAKING on a mobile device? Or is it usually just better to do it on a desktop?
Mary Popp
01:08:01
Sorry, my question was incomplete. Has any one used the resources with students and found that you have to have students make accounts in wakelet and quizlet to use them?
Rachel Riggs
01:08:02
@Mary - for Wakelet and Quizlet learners would really only need an account to create sets or, with Quizlet, to track progress of a class. But just to view vocabulary sets or collections, those should be readily accessible without an account.
Tiffany Lee
01:08:48
On mobile devices, students will need to download the Google Jamboard app to interact with the Jamboard, I believe.
Elaine Hill
01:08:50
my son just told me about Quizlet Live, so I will try that with my students next week.
Anna Cramer
01:09:26
“Overwhelmation!” Really want to learn and access all resources!
Rachel Riggs
01:09:48
Any makers want to answer this: Did Makers actually do any MAKING on a mobile device? Or is it usually just better to do it on a desktop?
Kristi Reyes
01:09:50
@Elaine - if you are teaching synchronously online, don't do the team game... it's a disaster. It's perfect with Quizlet Live in person. Students need to stand up with their phones and get close together.
Elaine Hill
01:10:13
I see, thanks for letting me know.
Evelyn Cassano
01:10:23
I did not make anything on my mobile device. Personally, I prefer my desktop.
Elaine Hill
01:10:24
My son uses in person in class
Tiffany Lee
01:10:37
oh wow!
Elaine Hill
01:10:40
I also love my laptop ;)
Mary Popp
01:10:52
I just used a wakelet from Marshall Reading yesterday in class and after doing a few cards in quizlet students were asked to make an account so they could see the rest of the quizlet.
Tiffany Lee
01:10:59
how did I miss this one. I needed an Hawaii trip. LOL
cristina Urena
01:12:03
I am with you Tiffany! Not sure how I missed this.

My previous question was about training teachers on EdTech tools: Can you talk about the approach you took to train folks on the edtech tools at the beginning of the makerspace?
