We will have Q&A time at the end of this presentation. Please feel free to use the chat for questions too!
Anna Martine Whitehead
26:28
are touring works that will also tour through Chicago eligible?
Pearse Anderson
27:13
Do "projects led by incorporated entities" include if the artist has created a single-purpose LLC that's just themselves? I've done so to insulate myself legally
Kerri Malone
27:45
Hi Anna! That’s a good question. I think we need some more information to understand the project. Based on this alone, I would say if you are applying for support for an existing project that is on tour, then it would not be eligible for the Ignite fund.
Camille Bacon
27:53
Will this PPT be available to review again after the meeting ?
Kerri Malone
28:38
Yes - this powerpoint will be available and sent out after the session.
Anna Martine Whitehead
28:54
Thanks @Kerri. This would be for development of a project that WILL tour nationally but will be primarily developed in Chicago (and premiered in Chicago).
Pearse Anderson
29:12
by "support retroactively for a past project" include projects that are finishing in autumn 2022? I have one in progress now but would need funding for the major visual art components
Camille Bacon
29:54
Would you consider art writers under the umbrella of “text based” artists?
Pearse Anderson
30:44
Thank you!
Kristie Kahns
31:05
if applying as a collective, all members of the collective must not be students? is that correct?
M Doherty
31:45
After notification in August, when would the recipients receive their funding?
Kerri Malone
31:45
If you are applying for a project as a collective - the lead artist cannot be a student. However, you can collaborate with students as part of the project
Camille Bacon
31:50
Thank you !!!
Amanda Gentry
31:52
Question: I am a ceramic artist works on large scale installations. I am planning to collaborate with a dancer and having them interpret and engage with my work through movement. The piece that I made that I want to collaborate with was made this past December. Is that a problem?
Kelsey Bogdan
32:02
should research grants describe a specific project they are working towards, or can they be more conceptual in nature & more focused on the research questions ?
Nadine Nakanishi
32:07
Are there fiscal sponsorship resources to help out with managing money?
Kristie Kahns
33:09
for the Research & Development Grant, is there different criteria for “public programming”? what are the expectations of the final work?
M Doherty
34:06
For the “public” facing component, does publication in a magazine satisfy that requirement? Or would the selection committee prioritize projects that have publication AND other components, like giving a talk as well.
j l drake
35:29
for the samples of work, yall ask for work made in the past three years, any advice for folks who have fewer works made recently??
j l drake
36:17
due to being underfunded I have paused my studio practice and leaned further into creating for art + activism .
M Doherty
37:17
Can both types of these grants be used to purchase something that would be required to make the project? (Materials, etc)
M Doherty
38:27
Gotcha thanks!
j l drake
38:37
re work sample: thank you for answering my question, follow up question, I would make this case to include older works via my application or in an email to yall ?
Amanda Gentry
40:26
If I do not pay myself, but only pay the dancer, would there be any flexibility in allowing the work that she engages with of mine be made prior to the grant period?
Amanda Gentry
40:41
I ask this because my work takes a long time to create.
Amanda Gentry
41:01
The ceramics pierce.
Kristie Kahns
44:50
for the Research & Development Grant, what kind of work samples (if any) are required to submit?
Amanda Gentry
45:19
Thank you for making the time for my question.
Kelsey Bogdan
45:24
how do we sign up for office hours ?
M Doherty
45:33
Wait I’m confused - I thought in a previous slide someone talked about part of this being the project representing a new way of an individual artist doing their practice, and furthers one’s artistic practice. Maybe I misheard, but I thought someone just said this grant is *not* intended to be about one artists practice? (But individual artists are allowed to apply??)
Kelsey Bogdan
45:40
oh never found it one website !
j l drake
45:44
could y’all also expand on the budget template ? it has a lot of categories, i am assuming y’all do not expect every field to filled but could you give further incite as to what y’all are looking for.
Kelsey Bogdan
45:44
never mind **

This link should work to sign up for Office Hours: https://calendly.com/ignitefund-officehours/30min?month=2022-06
Kerri Malone
46:31
For R&D, you will still need to demonstrate work work as a visual artist and an active artistic practice
Sara Slawnik, 3Arts she/her
50:53
Projects need to be experimental, public-facing, and collaborative in nature. An individual artist can apply if their proposal has this intent and scope.
Kelsey Bogdan
51:23
thank you so much ! this was very helpful
M Doherty
52:58
If you apply as an individual artist, does the “collaboration” have to be with other artists, or can you collaborate with non-artist collaborators in the actual making of the work? And/or, can the collaboration be with people you work with putting together a public talk/panel/screening? (Possibly both are satisfying the collaboration component?)
Sara Slawnik, 3Arts she/her
53:03
I agree
Anna Martine Whitehead
55:17
Thanks, everyone.
