Cllr sue smith woughton community council
01:00:57
its not just rural communities that have isolation and loneliness,,,,, Milton Keynes has lots as our cities with grid road have estates that are like their own village. we at Woughton are working at a register so we can work with agencies to tackle loneliness and isolation
Claire Goldfinch, NALC
01:01:03
As a result of the meeting with Ian and the prime minister, he wrote a letter of support for the guide which you can view here: https://www.nalc.gov.uk/library/our-work/health/3356-letter-from-pm-2020/file
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC

One of our Community Officers is our Dementia Champion and she works with local businesses, organisations and groups to ensure that Aylesbury is a Dementia Friendly town. She regularly delivers Dementia Friends sessions either in person or currently online. Since she started she has created well over 2000 dementia friends in our town.
Joyce Thackwray Clayton Parish Council
01:04:28
Thank you Ian, very interesting
Cllr Marianna Masters- Lambeth
01:06:05
I'm also from Brixton but Brixton in the London Borough of Lambeth :-)
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:06:53
Our local council is a member, all the pubs are members and the businesses. We also have quite a few Dementia Champions. We run a Memory cafe (unfortunately due to COVD) this has been stopped. We have done some Saturday morning cafes on line which has worked out quite well. Unfortunagtely the chairman of the group is in Cyprus at the moment supporting her daughter who has cancer. The group is still active as individuals - if that makes sense !
Joyce Thackwray Clayton Parish Council
01:07:04
Will it be ok to share the slides with other colleagues?
Claire Goldfinch, NALC

You can look at the Dementia-Friendly Parishes around the Yealm website here: https://www.dementiayealm.org/
Joyce Thackwray Clayton Parish Council
01:07:58
Thank you

Thanks
Veronica Sadowsky Great Baddow PC
01:11:21
Are any of the more 'active' parishes involved with the Dementia Action Alliance at district or county level?
Maureen Hinks Neston Town Council
01:15:51
In this Covid world...what are the best ways of identifying people in your community with dementia who would benefit from support?
Trevor Boyd - Wing Parish Council, Bucks
01:17:14
This is great - there are clearly economies of scale in twinning with multiple Parishes/Distracts etc - what could a parish do on its own though?
Veronica Sadowsky Great Baddow PC
01:18:27
I think it's helpful to consider residents with cognition problems as not everyone with dementia will have a diagnosis,It's about supporting all vulnerable residents within a community.
Claire Goldfinch, NALC
01:19:38
The Question and Answer session will be starting after Clare's presentation. Make sure you use the chat function to ask our panel a question
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:24:21
Is it possible for the Epilepsy Society to come to a Town Council and give a presentation That way everyone will have more understanding
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:24:46
Obviously at the moment it would have to be on Zoom
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:28:08
can we be sent the poster as a jpeg in order to print it off ?
Cllr Marianna Masters- Lambeth
01:28:42
Yes, please can we be sent the poster as a jpeg
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:29:33
As a member of my local chamber of trade I am willing to print the poster and give out to every business and tell other areas
Nicola Swanborough, Epilepsy Society
01:30:06
Cllr Whetlor. We will be in touch to talk about your requests and will be happy to send you a jpeg or poster.
Claire Goldfinch, NALC
01:30:14
Hi Marianna, Loretta and Keith. You can find the poster here: https://www.epilepsysociety.org.uk/sites/default/files/2020-05/Es_CalmCushionCallA4Poster.pdf
Cllr Clare Gamble Billingham Town Council
01:31:19
As you've mentioned, seizures can take many forms and how do we raise awareness in our towns and parishes of how to spot the signs of non conculsive seizures?.
Cllr Marianna Masters- Lambeth
01:31:24
What a fantastic presentation. Thank you Clare
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:31:41
thank you for the amazing presentations. well worth being here this morning.
Sharon Williams Denham Parish Concil
01:33:25
We have tried to contact our GP through the Practice Manager but can not get through

Veronica Sadowsky Great Baddow PC
01:34:37
I was really pleased to see Liz mentioned her local CVS. In lots of areas, there are already services to support the community and it's helpful to contact the CVS to see what's happening in order to tell residents and avoid duplication before starting new projects
Sean Macleod Lewes DC
01:35:01
Does anyone offer any reduced cost for training, while District and County councils have large budgets, Parish and Towns have limited incomes, I am attempting to make my District council hidden disability friendly and some of our towns and parishes want to do the same but are struggling with the financial impacts of the training costs while as a district we try and help but Covid has left us with huge financial wholes and we cant always help at the moemnt
Nicola Swanborough, Epilepsy Society
01:35:06
correction to above. To download our poster go to https://www.epilepsysociety.org.uk/seizuresavvy
Sharon Williams Denham Parish Concil
01:36:10
My sister is involved in a Hidden Disability group which has been instrumental in getting a Sunflower lanyard scheme going so people with hidden disabilities can wear. Airports and larger high street shops have come on board and are recognising this and training their staff
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:36:20
we have to remove stigmas from any disease, condition or group. We are lucky in our town that we are not judgmental and welcome everyone. I will definitely take this forward for Epilepsy. We have an active Dementia Group already
Emily Osler, Stroud Town Council
01:37:19
Perhaps sharing information with local Chambers so that our business communities can hep to build that culture of awareness amongst staff and customers and by extension to the wider community.
Cllr L Whetlor Somerset ALC
01:37:22
Every town or parish council should have all organisations on their website. this will be of enormous help to residents
Cllr Marianna Masters- Lambeth
01:37:29
Can I just ask Ian what studies he has re race inequalities and dementia. Although there is just a relatively small percentage of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic people who have dementia there is widespread frustation that there are so many delays in diagnosis and it feels like difficulty in accessing services
Cllr Pauline Bacon Myland community Coluncil Colchester
01:39:13
We are lucky that EALC (Essex) have a Health & Wellbeing Officer to offer the training but I have experienced opposition to this within the Council. Has anyone else had this problem.
Claire Goldfinch, NALC
01:39:25
We would love to hear your feedback from this event! You can find a feedback survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/XSJVWC7

Hi Clare. We provide training which would help with understanding the many different seizure types. You can find out more at https://www.epilepsysociety.org.uk/epilepsy-training
Veronica Sadowsky Great Baddow PC
01:40:07
In answer to Sean, some organisations wouldn't charge for training, As well as being a Parish Councillor I am the Service Manager for a charity supporting carers across Essex and we are always happy to talk to any group or public body about issues at no charge
Claire Goldfinch, NALC
