In Wyoming, we recently started an initiative to train Justice Impacted Peer Specialists to assist in the prisons. There has been great engagement with most of the correctional officers, and some do not accept this. There are those too that want to take total control of the initiative and create new systems. For the most part though, there is support from security staff, and good engagement in the programming.

Getting "buy-in" from security staff is tough already. Post COVID related staff shortages only exacerbates the challenges with cross training and buy-in. Still working on it here in Hawaii.

TC's have been around for a long time and training for counselors has been around for a long time has anyone ever developed training for CO's?

01:20:01
Michael Richards LADAC, Treatment and Recovery Services Coordinator

01:20:35
David - Yes … there have been trainings for CO's and for both COs and treatment staff to orient them to modified TCs. RSAT-TTA is developing on an updated version of exactly this hopefully coming out next Spring / Summer!

01:23:42
If your RSAT Program is TC based, "The Therapeutic Community" by Dr. George De Leon is a fantastic reference and does explain the role of staff, all staff as "Rational Authority". Youtube has some great videos available on George De Leon The Therapeutic Community/ TC Training Series and is a 3 volume set.
