Question: Anthem—-For Benefits Beyond Medicare don’t we have to use Anthem providers? Don’t Medicare providers that aren’t also Anthem cost more? Answer: No. You do not need to see an Anthem provider as long as they are a Medicare provider. Anthem pays 100% after Medicare regardless of Anthem contractual status.

Wendy, for Benefits Beyond Medicare, Medicare does not pay first. The EOC has an example where it costs a lot more to use a Medicare Provider who is not Anthem. Is that changing for Platinum?

For Beyond benefits, are they paid directly by Anthem or does the insured have to pay and then request reimbursement?
Wendy Franco- Anthem Blue Cross
01:23:34
Question: Wendy, for Benefits Beyond Medicare, Medicare does not pay first. The EOC has an example where it costs a lot more to use a Medicare Provider who is not Anthem. Is that changing for Platinum? Answer: When receiving services where Medicare is primary and we are paying supplemental, the Anthem network is not a factor. We will pay after Medicare at 100% of the Medicare deductible and coinsurance. If you are utilizing the Benefits Beyond Medicare and Anthem is the primary payer, it would be more financially beneficial to see an Anthem in network provider, yes.
Wendy Franco- Anthem Blue Cross
01:24:10
For Beyond benefits, are they paid directly by Anthem or does the insured have to pay and then request reimbursement? It depends on the provider of service and what they may ask of you.

Question: If a member used the hearing aid benefit in 2020 and now with upgraded platinum, can that person purchase another hearing aid for up to $2000 benefit? Answer: Yes, that would be correct. If it is less than 24 months, you would get the additional $1,000 as of January 1. If it has been greater than 24 months, you would have the full $2,000 benefit for another 24 month period available to you.
