thanks Dwane San Diego CAT Member

There is also money in the Governor’s proposed budget that is inappropriate and should be spent elsewhere. He asks for $3 billion to shore up the Unemployment Insurance Fund, basically making taxpayers pay for a program that is required by current law to be solely funded by a payroll tax on employers. This is a pure gift to the employers who have resisted paying adequate UI payroll taxes for decades.
Tina Martin
01:02:47
The staff members are often awesome!
Tina Martin
01:03:00
Sometimes they know more than the legislators!

I would say that 90% of the time you are going to speak with a staff member then with the State Assembly or State Senator member.

01:48:53
I have not used "Boss" in past meetings with staffers. Is preference on saying "assembly member" or "senator" okay? Is it better to say "boss" instead?
Tina Martin
01:50:36
I think this is an excellent example of speaking. I would say "assembly member" or "senator" instead of boss.
Cynthia Kinavey
01:51:33
Actually, to have info re nursing homes in the rep’s district ahead of time would be good . Does CARA have a listing of them esp by districts?
Tina Martin
01:52:14
Boss sounds very informal, and I think we can be informal as long as we're courteous, but it could be seen as too servile.
Ellen Schwartz
01:54:10
Is it good or bad for there to be unlicensed nursing homes in the district we are meeting with? If none, or few, maybe the member wouldn't consider it a priority; if many, maybe he gets campaign funding from the owners. I think it might be better to dodge the question. Though Keith is doing a great job of dodging the questions asked of him!
