Given this subject matter, I want to recommend Olga Tokarczuk’s newest book, a novel, The Books of Jacob. The culture of gematria, Kabbalah, and the Zohar, in other words, Hasidism, are placed in a context of one sort. A little heavy on description for me, it is a very clever book.
