Thank you for this seminar. Maybe someone could answer this: I am not myself a person of color, and our team has little experience working with communities of color. we want very much to apply our technology to economically disadvantaged communities. Is this a problem?
Michael Longo
01:23:19
^^^ I have the same question. I’m not a person of color, but I have a clean energy startup in an economic opportunity zone. Our intention is to bring jobs to this underprivileged community. Is this grant designed to help founders who are not people of color?
Rebecca Szymkowicz
01:24:40
Full eligibility requirements are on page 5 of the linked doc: https://americanmadechallenges.org/inclusiveenergyinnovation/docs/rules/Inclusive_Energy_Innovation_Prize_Official_Rules.pdf.

We need translators for our websites. We need african american and indigenous college students who are interested in affirming our Renewable Green Technologies in their labs. We hold 35 worldwide patents for our technologies but affirmation from all Americans is vital. We will lead the way to diffusing Climate Change.

One of the challenges for implementing meaningful and complex solutions at the community level is the need for lots of dialogue and collaboration, prior to implementation. Are their mechanisms, in this program, to facilitate such collaboration, in advance of application deadlines? Joe James, ATP josephjjames@bellsouth.net 803-413-6801

To truly achieve a more inclusive and equitable ecosystem, we’re going to need all hands on deck - technology partners, stakeholder engagement leaders, business, investment, government, academia, and more! Join us on January 26 from 2:30-4:30 pm ET for an Ideation and Teaming Event to promote collaborative discussion on the barriers and opportunities for creating an inclusive energy innovation ecosystem. This will be a very interactive event to further unpack the barriers and opportunities to inclusion, and promote networking among prospective partners on the prize application or implementation. I echo @Joe James. How can CEBN support the connection between entrepreneurs and communities so the collaboration is done up front before applications. (Salina Derichsweiler, Alaskan Native, CEO/Co-founder Transitional Energy, salina@transitional.energy)

Question of clarification: So when we commit in language and inclusive action in advocating for ALIPoC…(African American, Latinx, Indigenous and other "People of Color") is it viewed as not being inclusive of "Native American, Indian and Indigenous peoples?

In terms of sourcing MBE's in clean energy, one obstacle is corporations, municipalities sole reliance on minority owned businesses being registered as such. Good intentions, however it also results in reduced pool of qualified minority owned companies who can do the work.
