The Ohio Department of Education provided guidance to schools and districts that they must track and report attendance accurately during remote learning, but provided flexibility for the mechanism by which attendance was tracked and reported due to limitations of SISs and the varying ways education was provided.

Do you have a question for Lorri H? Type it here and we will share it with the speakers. Thank you!

01:09:11
Curious if for younger students- especially early elem aged- parents had similar responses about why attendance is different this year

01:11:28
What other tools did students fee,

01:11:35
@AnneK - thank you for your question

01:11:55
@DianaG, is this the full question?

01:11:57
Wfhat other tools did the students feel they needed?

01:12:42
@DianaG - thanks

01:13:21
Type your questions here! We will move them over to the speakers so they can answer them.

01:13:29
@attendanceabsence: I had several students say they didn't feel as visible to their teachers because of virtual class and teachers not seeing them as an individual

01:13:44
Can you tell us more about say yes coordinators?

01:14:01
@Ms. LorriH-Can you tell us more about the attendance clubs?

01:14:03
Can you share the purpose of the Attendance Clubs

01:14:17
How would you recommend using some of these same ideas with 2-5 year olds?

01:14:34
What does a Student Advisory Council look like in regard to attendance as compared to a club?

01:14:40
Say Yes Coordinators?

01:14:59
What's a Say Yes coordinator

01:15:00
wow

01:15:38
Lorri I agree. I wish school was not so based on a test preparation but a place to learn about so many different parts of life and also that teachers can and have time to be creative and inovative

01:16:04
could you please define all those programs as they are very intriguing... Thank you @Lorri

01:16:05
Thanks for these questions! We have moved them over to Lorri

01:16:13
Thank you Lorri

01:16:15
Where does the money comes from to support this approach to attendance?

01:16:27
Christina Sepulveda, Vice President, Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grovehttps://www.bgcgg.org/

01:17:06
In my country schools do not have such in depth focus on attendance

01:17:42
@rodell- where are you?

01:17:55
The government employs school attendance officers

01:18:03
Our school decided to make an investment into the company EveryDay Labs. They have been great in terms of providing the much needed evidence based research and helping us fine tune our attendance outreach and needs.

01:18:11
St. Kitts

01:18:37
wow. maybe you can be an influencer on this endeavor in St. Kitts.

01:18:59
@RodellWattley Some of these types of programs can be funded through federal Covid relief dollars. Check out this from our partner: FutureEd deep dive on Covid spending: https://www.future-ed.org/perspectives-on-how-schools-should-spend-covid-relief-aid/

01:21:10
@Jerome, can you tell me more about Everyday labs?

01:22:13
Do all Boys and Girls club provide these programs/services? I work with the Hispanic families in Dekalb County School District in Georgia.

01:22:56
I am aware of the good work being done by Boys and Girls Clubs in metropolitan areas. Do they have a presence or partners in rural areas of the country?

01:24:34
https://www.everydaylabs.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl8DSuure9gIVRMvICh2cWgPoEAAYASAAEgLHg_D_BwE Please check out this website for more on EveryDay Labs

01:24:53
We're looking into using Every Day labs

01:24:54
love bgclub providing these supports to students and families. Our local club has the issue of staffing and financial resource issues. Interns may not be an option for our bgclub. Would love to make this happen for our community.

01:25:05
@Jerome, thank you.

01:25:58
@Ms. Christina-How do we begin a partnership with boys and girls club?

01:27:24
There are Boys & Girls Club in various areas of Oahu. Not sure there's one in my area (Wahiawa) and if they provide the same/similar services. I would love to have the agency partner with my middle school as we are experiencing similar situations

01:27:59
Christina, have you seen a decrease in chronic absences with those participating in your program?

01:28:51
EveryDay labs has a great dashboard software service along with their outreach capabilities. They have built in case management as well. Attendance campaigns are ran every 4- 6 weeks. These communications consist on text nudges, physical letters and emails to parents. These communications have been evoking the much need response from parents from the residences. This allows us to open up the proper dialogue with the parent and student.

01:29:49
Yes, Parent Empowerment Course!!

01:30:02
What is the name of the Parent Empowerment program that Boys and Girls Club offers?

@Rodell please send your contact information to me. Millicent Lee - Director of Pupil Personnel Services -City School District of New Rochelle mlee@nredlearn.org

01:38:40
Christina offers this about using her ideas with 2-5 year olds: Parent engagement -- start early; start the school/parent connection early; welcome them to participate in programming; parenting classes; use the same youth strategies with adults - Belonging, Usefulness, Competence, inclusion -- parents need this too

01:39:39
Answer from Christina re: Boys & Girls Clubs: Not all BGC provide these services, all are independent chapters varies by chapter; BGCs are worldwide -- there are Clubs all across the states and on military bases worldwide

01:41:32
Call it summer camp! That sounds like fun as opposed to summer learning which may sound like the older version of punitive summer school. Learning should be a ton of fun throughout the summer too, camp gets kids excited to attend!

01:44:11
Sorry I need to leave. Super information and webinar...very helpful and hopeful.

01:50:37
@Scott, EdSource did a nice two-part series on chronic absence in rural California. We also have Stories on our website that address rural areas. https://edsource.org/2019/lost-days-inside-one-rural-california-districts-effort-to-combat-chronic-absenteeism/613135

01:50:38
Is that the becca law?

01:51:42
We are actually moving from punitive to proactive-we're in year 2- and finding much success in it

01:52:00
We have over 100,000 students

01:52:15
Relationships are vital - referrals for truancy can erode the trust and relationships.

01:52:34
Thank you!

01:52:37
Agreed Kari

Do you think SARB's are punitive ?

02:00:13
Barklish-- it depends upon how SARB's are done. in Riverside, they are creating restorative SARBs.
