"Good law includes a commitment to transparency and an insistence that no person or entity with a conflict of interest should have influence on public policy decisions." Paul Romer
Such incredible work you both are doing! Thank you!
Thank you Doug for the "trip down memory lane" for someone who has been a staunch advocate for customized employment since working with Marc Gold on his bicycle brake assembly in 1980 and Mike Callahan in the early 90's and then with Cary Griffin and you. Beth's work on Fidelity is very much needed and will be helpful. Why are 1/2 of the VR agencies not held accountable for implementing a law that is nearly eight years old? Many VR Counselors have no knowledge or understanding of customized employment and not even the Presumption of Employability for all people that was added to the Rehab Act in 1992? We must also deal with the culture of stigma, labels and low expectations that continue in special education and medicine and adult providers. Fidelity helps but we have a lot of other heavy lifting to do.
We need something to encourage the employer to accept CE
Doug’s new book should be required reading for ask. It’s fabulous!
I am from MN, we have developed our own fidelity standards for CE based upon the Essential Elements of Customized Employment for Universal Application. We require all providers who wish to accept VR funding to meet those standards. We accept any 40 hour ACRE approved training programs. I am part of the review panel, but I am continually getting GHA Certificates with staging records submitted that are half complete, maybe took 6 months to provide the service. The staging records maybe only do 2 interviews, 3 observations, put NA in the rest of the blanks. These job seekers are not getting quality CE services. How is GHA ensuring fidelity within training programs to let providers know they are not meeting standards outlined in the fidelity scales developed?
this was great. thank you!
As a reminder, a copy of the transcript, recording, and presentation deck will be sent out to all on the Webinar listserv. You can register for that listserv and receive information on future Employment First monthly community of practice webinars here:https://econsys.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=29aa515bd6e4d1a3e196930b4&id=5c11632603&e=13f1bd53cf
Thank you Beth! I just think it's something that may continue to happen with many trainings! That's we are pretty closely monitoring in MN,. We ask providers to continue to meet standards. Part of my role to sustain quality CE services in MN.
