14er Public Access: Problems & Solutions
This month we received news that the four Decalibron 14ers will close to public access after legislation died that would’ve strengthened landowner liability protections, so five fourteeners are now closed in Colorado. In this webinar, we’ll explain what's caused these closures, provide updates on this issue and our attempts to address it, and discuss potential solutions to restore access to the five Colorado 14ers currently closed to public access: Mount Democrat, Mount Cameron, Mount Lincoln, Mount Bross, and Mount Lindsey.

If you are busy on March 29, sign up anyway and we will share an on-demand recording you can watch later.

Mar 29, 2023 06:00 PM in Mountain Time (US and Canada)

Alex Derr
Chief Mountain Officer @The Next Summit
Alex started The Next Summit in 2019 to educate the public about mountain safety and conservation using digital marketing tactics and strategies. He is an Eagle Scout, and life-long hiker and climber with training in Wilderness First Aid, Leave No Trace Ethics, and Environmental Policy and Management. He is working with a coalition of groups, including the Colorado Mountain Club and Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, to strengthen the state's recreational use statute protecting landowners who allow public access on their land - which is the key to restoring public access to the closed 14ers. In this session, Alex will share some history about this issue and what his research shows about potential solutions.
