The Smartest Path Towards a CBDC in the Euro Area
According to a recent report by the Bank of International Settlements, 9 out of 10 central banks are exploring central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and more than half are now developing them or running concrete experiments.

It is clear that a Eurozone CBDC is no longer a question of “if” but of “how” and “when”. To answer some of the most pressing questions about CBDCs, we have invited some of the most knowledgeable experts on the subject in the European Union. They have invaluable insights into the policy and technology aspects of central bank digital currencies.

Petko Karamotchev is the Co-founder and CEO of INDUSTRIA, an enterprise blockchain/DLT consultancy, and development company. Mr. Karamotchev has 20 years of experience in financial services and enterprise IT. The company he is leading is an R3 partner. R3 is an enterprise blockchain software company developing the Digital Currency Accelerator that enables central banks to simulate, develop and test, deploy and maintain a digital currency.

Sarah Palurovic is an Executive Director at the Digital Euro Association. Ms. Palurovic is an economist and research assistant at the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center.
