Illinois Authors - A Conversation with Margo Jefferson
Margo Jefferson, an author and Pulitzer Prize-winning arts critic, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute for a virtual conversation at 10:00 a.m. CT Friday, December 3.

Jefferson and Institute Director John Shaw will talk about Jefferson’s National Book Critics Circle Award-winning memoir “Negroland,” which tells the story of Jefferson’s coming-of-age in the 1950s and ‘60s in upper-crust Black Chicago.

Jefferson was a book and arts critic for Newsweek and the New York Times and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1995 for her book reviews and cultural criticisms for the Times. Her writing has also been published in Vogue, New York Magazine, The Nation, and Guernica, and she is a writing professor at Columbia University.

She also wrote the book “On Michael Jackson.” Her newest book, “Constructing a Nervous System,” another memoir, is set to be published next year.

This event is part of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute’s Illinois Authors series, in which we meet the writers who bring the Prairie State to life.
