She is the Director of the Safe Surgery Safe Systems Program at Ariadne Labs, and the Scientific Director of the Province of Alberta Surgery Strategic Care Network as well as Professor of Surgery and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. She has helped lead an international team to optimize the performance of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist in High Income Countries and has worked to advance the rigor and scope of international Enhanced Recovery After Surgery guidelines. Mary is originally from St. Catharines Ontario. She went to Yale University for her Undergraduate degree in Art, received her MD from Dalhousie University in Halifax, completed her general surgery residency in Vancouver and her pediatric surgery residency in Toronto. She completed an MPH at TH Chan Harvard School of public health and has worked in Calgary for almost 14 years. ALEXANDER A. HANNENBERG, M.D. (Faculty, Safe Surgery Program @Ariadne Labs) Alexander Hannenberg, M.D. is a faculty member in the Safe Surgery Program at Ariadne Labs. His work has focused on the implementation of Crisis Checklists for critical event management in the operating room and beyond and development of a novel and scalable simulation training tool. He is also a founding Board Member of Lifebox USA, working on Lifebox safe surgery programs around the world, with a particular focus in Latin America. He is Adjunct Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Tufts University School of Medicine and was Associate Chair of Anesthesiology at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He is a past president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and served as its inaugural Chief Quality Officer. He previously led the development of physician quality measures in anesthesiology and critical care for the AMA Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement. He served on the national Council on Surgical and Perioperative Safety and was chair of its Board in 2013. Carolyn Holland, MSN, CRNA Carolyn received her BSN from the University of Tennessee and her MSN from the University of Cincinnati. After completing her anesthesia training at Tuft's New England Medical Center, she practiced clinically at Mount Auburn Hospital, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Aspen Valley Hospital and Saint Anthony's Summit Medical Center. She practiced independently for AHP, Epix and CPR in Denver. She was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Nursing program at the University of Cincinnati where she taught The Anesthesia Machine and Monitoring and received the Outstanding Educator Award in 1993. She served on the AANA Practice Committee in 2021-2022 and has presented nationally and for state associations about peripheral nerve blocks, OB analgesia and anesthesia, patient satisfaction and the anesthetic implications of both marijuana and psilocybin. Dru Riddle, PhD, DNP, CRNA, FAAN (Assistant Professor of Professional Practice @Texas Christian University School of Nurse Anesthesia) Dru Riddle, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at Texas Christian University School of Nurse Anesthesia, Fort Worth, Texas USA. He also serves as the Director of the Center for Translational Research: A JBI Center of Excellence. Dr. Riddle is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and maintains an active clinical anesthesia practice. He completed his BSN at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing, his MSN with CRNA certification at Old Dominion University, his DNP at Texas Christian University, and his PhD in Nursing and Genetics at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Riddle’s research interests include evidence-based healthcare, pharmacogenomics, and genetic implications for anesthesia care. Additionally, he has spoken nationally and internationally on evidence-based healthcare, systematic review strategies, and various clinical anesthesia topics.
