Based on primary source materials from the Hong Family Papers at The Huntington, “Y.C. Hong: Advocate for Chinese American Inclusion” introduces You Chung “Y.C.” Hong (1898 – 1977), one of the first Chinese American immigration attorneys in California. The collection contains over 7,600 immigration case files created during and after the Chinese Exclusion era. The presentation also touches on the Hong family’s involvement in the creation of Los Angeles New Chinatown in the 1930s. Lastly, viewers will learn about The Huntington, a collection-based research library, with its mission to identify, acquire, preserve, and make available primary source materials to researchers.
