Ken Nisbet explores the many ways in which we can find evidence to help trace Scottish ancestors who worked as a farmer or agricultural labourer.
Ken Nisbet, who has both farmers and farm workers in his ancestry, will look at the sources - both online and offline - that can be used to investigate those of our ancestors who worked on the land.
He will cover the difference between crofting and farming, and how farming itself consists of various types. He will also how farming changed and impacted those who worked on the farms, and how it varied in different parts of Scotland.
Ken will look at official records produced by the government and non official sources that the family historian can use to give a full picture of farm life.
This 45-minute talk will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A, chaired by Chris Paton.
