Chicago Tribune investigative reporter Ray Long will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute for a virtual conversation at 10:00 a.m. CT Wednesday, May 18.
The talk, titled “The Triumphs and Travails of Speaker Madigan,” is part of the Institute’s Illinois Authors Series, in which we meet the writers who bring the Prairie State to life on the page.
Long and Institute Director John Shaw will discuss Long’s book “The House That Madigan Built,” which chronicles former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan’s long and powerful political career.
The book was published in late March, weeks after the former speaker was indicted on federal racketeering charges.
Long has been covering Illinois government for more than 40 years and has been at the Chicago Tribune for nearly 25 years. He is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist. In addition to Illinois state government, he has also covered Chicago City Hall, courts, and Cook County.
