Description
Parents and caregivers, do you know about the power of literacy? It is a fundamental tool children need to create a strong foundation for learning new skills and understanding the world around us. Many literacy milestones occur before a child has the ability to read or write. From birth, children are building brain connections to understand how language works, increase their vocabulary, and display self-expression.
Culturally relevant material helps to eliminate potential barriers when developing early literacy skills. Research shows that when our youngest learners are able to connect text to their reality, they thrive! Children are more confident and engaged when they see themselves in the media they read and watch, which leads to increased critical thinking and problem-solving skills for academic success and cultural empathy for others.
Parents and child care professionals, join us to learn:
- Why culturally relevant literature matters and the role that it plays in overall development.
- How to play an active role in fostering literacy and language development at home.
- How to identify culturally relevant literature and where to gain access to materials.
