YWCA Courageous Conversation: The CROWN Act and Natural Crowns

The CROWN (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) Act is a law that prohibits race-based hair discrimination, including denial of employment and educational opportunities because of hair texture or protective hairstyles including braids, locs, twists, or Bantu knots. The CROWN Act, or similar legislation, has been passed in 20 states but did not pass the US Senate in 2022.
Research shows that hair discrimination is real:
*66% of Black girls attending predominantly-white schools report experiencing hair discrimination.
*Black women are more likely to be sent home from work because of their hair
*Black hair is 3.4 times more likely to be perceived as unprofessional

Join YWCA El Paso del Norte Region for a Courageous Conversation on the CROWN Act and the impact of such discrimination.
