High-fidelity submillimeter-isotropic-resolution diffusion MRI through gSlider-BUDA circular-EPI and structured low-rank reconstruction

Submillimeter-isotropic-resolution diffusion MRI (dMRI) has shown great potential for characterizing white-/gray-matter. In this work, we developed an SNR-efficient gSlider-BUDA circular-EPI acquisition with structured low-rank reconstruction, to achieve high-fidelity diffusion MRI at sub-millimeter isotropic resolution. Using the proposed technique, we demonstrate high-fidelity whole-brain 0.50mm-isotropic-resolution dMRI with TE of 66ms, and ~40% reduction in the echo-train-length and T2* blurring when compared to typical highly accelerated EPI acquisitions.

Dr. Liao received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Zhejiang University in China in 2018. Following the completion of his PhD, he was appointed Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School under Kawin Setsompop, PhD, where his research was focused on improving the efficiency of data acquisition/reconstruction in MRI. In 2021, he came to Stanford to join Dr. Setsompop’s lab as a Postdoctoral Scholar where his research is focused on developing new technology for diffusion and quantitative MRI. Dr. Liao has received many awards including the Summa Cum Laude Merit Award and the Junior Fellow Award from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
